A Real Story of Money No Enough

“I find so many people struggling, often working harder, simply because they cling to old ideas. They want things to be the way they were; they resist change.” Robert Kiyosaki

money not enough
Many of us are driven by the fear of not having enough money. We are afraid that we do not have enough for our needs such as old age, a bigger home or university fees for our children. Even as we have some savings, we have an underlying fear that our money will get eroded by inflation. And so, we figure that the only solution is to work a lot harder.

What transpires is that if we are mostly driven by fear in the way we approach things, the consequences can be negative.

The Real Story of Money No Enough

In the local newspapers recently, I read about how a 74-year old woman sweated and toiled for 60 years but who lost all her entire savings of S$400,00 (US$320,000) in a day to con artists. Mdm Goh had little schooling to begin with. She started working since the age of 10 due to her poor family background.

Mdm Goh was largely a low-wage worker but took on multiple odd jobs at times due to her fear of growing old with no money. She was also extremely frugal and did not dare spend anything on herself….not even a TV set. Her story struck, for there are few who would sew clothes out of fabric scraps in this day and age; but that was she did.

Unluckily, Mdm Goh ran into five con artists. They preyed on her kindness and shortly, sold her a story that she was possessed by an evil spirit. She fell for the story immediately. Ironically, despite her attachment to money, Mdm Goh withdrew her entire savings of S$400,000 (US$320,000) to pay for the exorcism. It did not take her long to discover that she was conned. By then, no amount of tears can bring back all her money.

My heart goes out to her. The money that she has made had not come easy. However, I noted that she was driven by fear all her life. She confessed to being afraid of not having enough. It was because that she was driven by fear that she was promoted to part with her money. In the end, she was left with zero savings. Her fear became a reality.

Fortunately, since her plight was revealed, many had come forward with donations; even though the amount did not quite equate to the amount that she had lost. It also does appear that some good did come out from her experience. After the incident, Mdm Goh said that she will need to continue working but she is going to plan for a holiday to China. She is recognising the importance of play and balance. Good for her!! Then again, I cannot quite agree that continuing to struggle like the way she did previously is the best way forward.

“Just know that it’s fear that keeps most people working at a job. The fear of not paying their bills. The fear of being fired. The fear of not having enough money. the fear of starting over. That’s the price of studying to learn a profession or trade, and then working for money. Most people become a slave to money… and then get angry at their boss.” Robert T. Kiyosaki, best-selling author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad

Money No Enough In Reel and Real Life

Now, this was an account that happened in real life. Her story of being cheated out of her savings due to superstitious thinking is not uncommon. No less, there was also a Singapore movie, Money No Enough, which was a box-office success some years ago. The movie was about three friends who are driven by the fear of not having enough money. It was a hit because of its accurate portrayal of local culture and our obsessive pursuit of money.

Living in poverty consciousness is to be driven by fear. It means that you make decisions from a place of need, craving and lack. In contrast, when you operate from prosperity consciousness, you are acting from a space of love, empowerment and fulfillment.

When you are focused on not having enough, “not enough” is where you send your energy to. You become mired in thoughts of lack and limitation. Eventually, by universal laws, you manifest a situation that reinforces the thoughts that you have been thinking.

What you may like to ask yourself is this:

What am I focusing on right this moment – lack or abundance?

Where appropriate and necessary, make the necessary shift.

Love and Abundance Always,
