BE One With The Spoon – and The Universe

Be One with The Spoon, we were told in an Advanced Silva Workshop, which took place just the weekend, by our instructor Ms Nancy Ho.

Sounds like mambo jumbo? I thought so too.

How do you BE One with a Spoon, for crying out loud???

The weekend culminated with an exercise that required us to bend a metal spoon, not by brute force but by the mental focus of thought. Nancy shared that we, be it spoon or human, are made up of energy and therefore, instead of viewing ourselves as seperate from another matter, we are One. And BEing One, it is possible to alter the appearance of the spoon.

The focus of the Workshop that I was attending was on BEing, with a course outline of helping participants improve on creative, intuitive and spiritual abilities. I had signed up for it some weeks back, knowing that my husband would be free to take care of the kids, while I attend the workshop.

The Spoon Test

So it was….during the last hour of the workshop yesterday, that we were handed ordinary metal spoons that were bought from the supermarket. I tested the spoons to check if it was possible to bend them. Nope….no way it would be easy for that…..the spoons were made of solid stainless steel and thick at the handle. Urrgh…..I felt a lump in my throat, in nervous anticipation about the whole exercise.

Although I could theoretically agree with the concepts of energy and focused thought, I was sceptical at what Nancy was suggesting – that it was possible to bend anything made of thick solid metal.

However, in about 15 minutes or so into the exercise, a number of my classmates managed to bend their metal spoons. Some not only bend their spoons but twisted them out of shape.

Great job!!

The other half of the class was still in deep concentration, holding on their spoons, as if “willing” them to bend.

Sigh….Including myself.

Another 10 minutes lapsed.

My spoon refused to budge.

Damn!!…not even for less than a millimeter, could I attempt to bend it.

A Battle In The Mind

I could barely keep myself from launching into a stream of expletives!

It became clear to me that I was stuck in a s****hole of disbeliefs – I just could not do it!!!

It was no longer just a battle with “willing” the spoon but one I sought to wrestle in my mind. Now that some of my classmates have proven that it was possible to bend a solid matter out of shape, it was more about how much I believed in my own abilities….

Was I capable of focused thought?

What would become of me, if I found out that I have no ability to effect any changes in the physical world through the power of thought?

What would become of this blog, the very essence of which is on taking charge of the mind and in creating the life that one desires?

Doubt clouded my mind. I began to feel as if my whole life would now depend on whether I could bend spoons with mental focus or not.

Our energy is in proportion to the resistance it meets. — William Hazlitt

Nancy suggested that it would be helpful to visualise a flame that was burning the handle of the spoon, enough for it to melt and making it easy for us to bend it. Also, while focused attention is needed, BEing one with the spoon also required us not to “force” things to happen nor try too hard.

So I imagined a candle flame burning a part of the handle and focused my attention on it. In the end, I had to give up. We were running out of time in class.

Despite feeling exhausted after a long tiring weekend of lectures and exercises, I swore that I would not sleep last night until I got my spoons bent. I had lots of emails to attend to, when I got home, but nothing was as important to me as the battle that was going on in my mind. I barely looked at my inbox, before shutting down my PC early.

From Doubt To Elation

I told my husband deftly that he would not be allowed to sleep until I finished Mission Impossible!! Luckily for him, lest he would lose sleep, he had already bent and twisted metal spoons himself in an Energy Conference some years back. He offered me some useful suggestions. Visualise the spoon as red hot, he said. Only if it was red hot enough, could the molecules in the spoon part enough for its structure to be altered.

That was when I realised that perhaps imagining a candle flame was not good enough to “melt” the spoon. My intention was just not strong enough!!

So instead of a candle flame, I visualised the spoon over my kitchen stove fire at full blast. My visualisation was so vivid that I almost dropped the spoon a couple of times because it felt burning hot in my hands!!

And instead of taking things the easy way out as some would by focusing on the nape of the spoon at the weakest point between the handle and curved end, I placed my concentration on the thickest part of the spoon handle. I held on to my focus, pushing away thoughts of doubt. In steady focus, I continued.

In about 15 minutes or so, I could feel as if the molecules in the handle of the spoon were parting and not as tightly packed. The metal was softening? I went in for the “kill”.

In an instant, I managed to bend the handle. At another go, the handle got twisted very easily. See the first spoon ifrom the bottom of the picture (my first attempt) on the left.

The fire of my imagination must be so hot that another spoon, which I tried after the first piece, broke into two! By the time I got to the third spoon, I was tired mentally and only managed to bend it at the nape.

Yippee!!! I went to bed on a high, happy with my latest collection of “art” pieces!

Lessons From The Spoon

A test in mental skills? Not just that! The purpose of the exercise cover many key lessons on Universal Laws:

1. BEing One

You are made up of the same energy subatomic particles, as much as the spoon, your dog or the trees. Of course, what differentiates you from the rest mentioned is that you are a bundle of intelligent energy that is able to process information, and in the human form.

You are not a seperate BEing but part of the whole Universe. You are more connected to the next human being, than you realise. Through your connection with others, you are able to subconsciously pick up the energy of others in their intentions, even before they verbalise them. When you realise how connected you are with others, you will be on your way to BEing more loving and kinder to others, as how you would to yourself. Wars will end, strife will cease, in the understanding that you are really One.

2. Cause and Effect

When you are One with the Spoon, it is possible to change its molecular structure, and hence its appearance. This supports the Universal Law that you are the cause and effect of yourself. You are all that you see, feel and done because of the thoughts in your mind.

By the same token, you are able to effect physical events by channelling your energies on your desires. Energy follows focused thought. This makes you a co-Creator of the Universe. For what you choose to focus on, can manifest in physical reality.

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought.”
— Buddha

That you are co-Creator of the Universe is a powerful and liberating realisation. Your energy field changes constantly, based on your thoughts and feelings. If your intention is not strong enough, you will not create anything. You can see that in the example of my initial problems with trying to bend the spoon. On the other hand, if you focus your thoughts with pure and uninterrupted intent, you can create almost anything you desire.

You can have anything you want if you want it desperately enough. You must want it with an inner exuberance that erupts through the skin and joins the energy that created the world. — Sheilah Graham

3. The Expansion of All Possibilities

The limits to all possibilities lie in the blockages that exist in our mind. No more playing the victim for this role has not proven to yield good results. Instead, choose to free yourself of negative beliefs that are holding you back.

“Most people are not really free. They are confined by the niche in the world that they carve out for themselves. They limit themselves to fewer possibilities by the narrowness of their vision.”
— V. S. Naipaul (Trinidadian writer of Indian descent,Won the Nobel Literature Prize in 2001, 1932)

If you are imaginative enough, you can even think up and manifest whole new worlds for yourself. Just think about the number of innovative ideas that were born because great minds decided to explore new frontiers in improving humanity?

In conclusion, give serious consideration to following your dreams and attract the resources to make possibilities happen. Believe in your own capabilities (a key lesson for me)! Be an active Co-creater of the Universe and revel in its Abundance!

Interested To Prove The Power of Focused Thought?

Metal spoon bending is not a party trick. Neither do you need psychic powers to do it.

There is no use of illusion. As some would have you believe. At least, not in my case.

I can also assure you that the spoons are not the thin ones either. Definitely, no trickery involved here.

If you are interested to learn how to test out the power of focused thought, here’s a video demonstration that is pretty close to how I did it…..with first going into the Alpha meditative state and then using focused concentration….

Be A Hero

If you can bend metal spoons, it feels as if you can do almost anything! Walk on water, scale blank walls with your bare hands, levitate yourself…Anything! You can easily be one of the characters in Heroes, except that this is not for TV but for Real.

It sure feels good to be empowered. And All with the aid of Spoons!
