How to Address The Emotional Causes to Skin Problems

Emotional causes to skin problems can be something that you want to look into, if your issues are persistent. While using steroids may alleviate your itch-scratch-itch symptoms, they are not cures. Also, long time reliance on drug medications can result in a “thinning” of your skin layer.

I know enough about dealing with skin healing issues myself. After all, I have had bad eczema outbreaks for many years until a few years ago. Recently, from working with clients, I noticed that there is a distinct relationship between those who are particularly energetically sensitive at the soul-level with also having a skin problem.

Skin disorders are like no other. Just as stress can result in skin problems, skin disorders can also cause tremendous stress. In cases of severe skin issues, those afflicted can become depressed. While it seems shallow, let’s admit that appearances do have an impact on first impressions. It can also affect our ability to find a mate, land that all-important interview or secure our next promotion.

Even though it is non-life threatening, having skin disorders reduces confidence. If you are someone with a skin disorder, you may find it hard to love and embrace yourself. Notably, studies show that Americans spend more on their appearance than on social welfare, health and education combined. Many, at the same time, beat themselves up over their vanity; thus exacerbating their difficulties in self-love.

Hence, especially where your skin issues are chronic, I believe it would help you to find out what the emotional causes to skin problems are.

“…and you realize that the world outside your skin is as much yourself as the world inside” Alan Watts, British Philosopher

The Emotional Causes to Skin Problems

Your skin is the largest organ in the body. It is the barrier or the protective layer that separates your inside from the outside world. Through nerves, it carries messages about whether your environment is hot or cold to the brain. The skin is also emotionally responsive. It turns pale when you face anxiety and red-hot when you are excited. Your skin also shows reactions in situations of love or hate.

Become aware if your skin issues are contributed by negative emotions due to past events. The type of your condition may also mean that a specific emotion is more at play. As far as my research goes, there can be 44 different types of skin disorders. They include acne, psoriasis, herpes and so on.

Refer to the chakra chart below. As you can see, skin issues are generally related to blockages at the first chakra. They concern your sense of safety and belonging to your tribe or to this Earth.
Emotional Reasons for Physical Diseases
Thus, skin issues could be a physical manifestation of your strange and unexplained longing for “home” which is not of this planet. Or, they could be a manifestation with regards to your belief of “it is not safe to be me”. The opposite of feeling safe is feeling danger. In the face of perceived danger, you are feeling threatened. The result is that your skin, which is supposed to be a protective layer, is undergoing an invasion. Eruptions symbolic of a war or conflict going on develops, thereafter.

Where you experience itching, it is also a sign of aversion about the self. There is potentially something about the self that you are rejecting. In the process, you turn your anger inwards by assaulting your skin. The question to ask is: what are you rejecting about the self that is causing the irritation and itching?

If you are feeling unsupported by your family and friends, the lack of love can be destabilising. This contributes to the belief that you do not have the community or resources that will help you thrive in this world. Where you perceive that there are no support structures and you are left alone, naked and bare, skin issues can develop.

How to Address Emotions Causes to Skin Problems

Here are some ways of what you can do to address emotional triggers:

(1) Self-Love

As explained, there is a plausible link between skin disorders and self-love difficulties.

A lot has to do with the way you think and feel about yourself. Since they are self-created, you can certainly work on transforming your emotions and beliefs.

According to Louise Hay in her “You can Heal Your Life” book, affirmations to work with on skin issues include……

* I feel safe to be me.

* I lovingly protect myself with thoughts of joy and peace.

* The past is forgiven and forgotten.

* I am free in this moment.

Self-Love Secrets helps you to realign your self-talk and offers suggestions on how you can improve the relationship you have with yourself.

(2) Essential Oil Therapy

Essential oils help to reduce emotional stress by affecting your limbic brain. They also helps to restore any imbalances in your body. Great essential oils to use for stress reduction on skin issues include Lavender, Stress Away and Harmony from Young Living.

(3) Raise Your Resilience

When you are feeling more resilient, you naturally perceive that you are able to respond or cope with life’s constant changes. You gain an improved strength of survivability when you perceive an increased ability to thrive in this world.

Resilience has to be built. It comes from repeatedly picking yourself up and finding out that you have got what it takes. It also happens when you equip yourself with better resources and support structures. Building firm foundations, having systems in place and stronger family or community ties will help too. While they are external, they can contribute to feelings of assurance that you are and will be safe.

(4) EFT Tapping

If you would like to dive deep and address your emotional causes to skin problems, consider getting some healing done. Work on rewriting your childhood stories at the emotional layer through applying EFT tapping and Matrix Reimprinting. General clearing work may not have sufficed so far or if you want to peel the layers to reveal the authentic truth behind your emotional story.

Apply for a discovery call on your questions or to find out about working together.

Improve Wellness By Addressing Emotional Causes to Skin Problems

For anyone with skin issues, there is also the fear of rejection. You become wary of what people may say about your appearance. Social withdrawal can happen as a result.

Your body image accounts for about one-third of your self-esteem, and self-esteem has an impact on your psychological health. This also means that it can affect the level of success that you ultimately achieve or the amount of money you make. Clearly, improving skin health can raise your wellness throughout.

Evelyn, I found your description of the functions of the skin so interesting. I generally don’t have significant skin issues, but I do resonate with the reasons the first chakra can be out of balance. Thank you.

Love that Alan Watts quote Evelyn. And I know people who have skin challenges that seem to come and go as stressful situations in their life wax and wane, so this makes perfect sense to me. 🙂

Thank you for this article. I have had shingles outbreaks on different areas of my body on and off since age 11. I’ve been struggling with this on the right side of my face for the past 4 years(!) that has persisted despite medical treatment. First chakra issues definitely resonate with me on many levels. I do not want to fear this condition (unskillful rabbit hole!) but addressing issues of safety, security, and belonging instead.

I’m dealing with eczema on my lower back and both elbows. Also what appears to be a fungal infestation in my groin. I do have self esteem, self love issues and that could be the underlying cause of my symptoms.
I am staying away from meds and trying natural ways to heal, but deep down inside I know its an inside job.

Thanks

Hi!
This is really on point for me. I realise that all the occasions in the last 5 or so years when I’ve had an outbreak of Pityriasis versicolor (fungus thing on skin), it’s about self-love, not feeling I ‘belong’ feeling alone and all first chakra stuff. My goodness, so accurate for me. Thank you. I’ve tried some anti-fungus shampoos for the skin, but it’s an inside job as Mike says (above). I have just moved countries and feel alone and scared, so it’s on point for sure. Thank you for reminding me to do the inner work.
much love
Jenny

Hey there! Enjoyed the article and love Louise so much. Been working on letting go of random weight gain after feeling very good about maintaining a weight and body fat percentage for a few years. Trying to accept the self while also not accepting that there’s no hope for getting back to that. Refusing to accept what is to allow goals to dominate yet also allowing space to accept yourself. It’s a weird sort of balancing!! Any suggestions would be wonderful.
