How to Solve the Root Cause of Your Money Story

Would you be interested in solving the root cause of your money story, instead of just dealing with the symptoms?

Your money story is the one you often tell to others. It is made up of the issues going on in your current financial situation, the persistent worry that you are experiencing or/and the complaints you have about the economy, property prices, cost of living and so on. It is a story that occupies your mind throughout the day.

As I have found, money stories often act as a smoke screen to deeper underlying issues. At first, it is easy to be mistaken into believing that your financial challenges are caused by a string of bad luck, the fault of the tax authorities, the constant unfair treatment by your employers, the failure of receiving payment on time, or the banks who are out to get you. This being the case, you try to remedy your challenges with band-aide or by rearranging certain aspects of your life.

iceberg theory

However, should you step aside for a bit, you may be able to observe money patterns that keep repeating. What you observe are likely to be debilitating cycles of frustration, worry, panic, resentment and anger over finances. Over and over again, you have not been able to truly break free.

Where there is a repeating pattern in your external issues, a root cause could exist internally.

Feeling intrigued? Read on……

It is what lies below the surface of the iceberg (see above picture illustration) that influences your external actions, behavior and attitude towards money. This is where the root cause of your money story can be found.

Here are some of the money stories that various clients reported to having:

– Not able to thrive or make enough in new vocation;
– Inability to have money breakthroughs;
– Stuck at a certain level of income;
– Not able to attract paying clients;
– No pay raise for the last 3 years;
– Not able to revise prices up;
– Deals keep falling through;
– Inability to pay bills;
– Over-extended on credit card;
– Kicked out of dwelling due to inability to pay rent;
– Cannot seem find a job that pays well;
– Living from month to month, and so on.

The problem is that the more you tell a story of lack, the more contractive you feel. The thing is that if you hope to change your situation, you need to start by first changing the energy you have around your money story. Your outer story reflects the inner beliefs that you have about money. In order to dissipate the contractive energy that you feel and believe about money, you will need to uncover the root cause of your troubles.

How to Unravel the Mystery in the Root Cause

The following are three steps:

(1) The first step involves awakening into awareness.

Many people do not realize that they have been directly a lot of negative emotional energy to their debilitating stories. Fear keeps them trapped from becoming conscious. They are too preoccupied with worry to get clear in their thinking.

In order to break free, you will have shine light into the shadows.

From a non-attached conscious state, ask yourself: What is your true (inner) money story? What are the beliefs you have? Are these beliefs expansive or contractive?

In all likelihood, if you have made yourself out to be a victim and given the lack of money power over your happiness, your beliefs are limiting ones.

(2) The second step involves uncovering your birth story.

How was your birth like? Did your mother experience a “difficult labor” from giving birth to you? Is that why you view life as a struggle and being difficult?

Did you suffer any trauma when you were born?

Did your parents welcome you with open arms or did they withhold love from you because you are considered a burden?

(3) The third step involves recalling your childhood stories, so that you can uncover the beliefs that you have formed.

What kind of role models did you grow up with?

Did your parents teach you how to master financial education?

What were some of the beliefs they brought you up with? How did your parents reward you for good behavior or exam grades in school?

Solve the Root Cause to Your Money Story

Behind your money story lies core unresolved issues.

Your inability to have more money is symbolic of the core issues that you have not been able to let go of.

Hidden in the labyrinth are your darkest secrets: birth trauma, childhood memories and collective unconscious patterns.

Within the folds could lie your deepest fear, shame, anger, resentment and grief.

It takes investigative work to dive into the layers.

But yes, as I have discovered and many others too, it is possible to unravel some of the mystery.

During the internal process, you will realize that your relationship with money is a reflection of the relationship you have with yourself and with all others.

{If you have a poor relationship with the self, you are likely to have a poor relationship with money. Likewise, if you have low self-love issues, you are likely to have a poor relationship with money.}

You clear the mystery through deep root healing of your wounded inner child and the energetic release of trauma from past events that have been keeping you stuck.

What is wonderful is that the more you align with the truth of your being, the greater your ability to attract the financial wealth that you deserve. Through alchemy, you transmute into the gold of your true being. Ultimately, you radiate in brilliance from the core of your soul.

Dear Evelyn,
This was an enlightening post. It never occurred to me that a difficult birth could affect one’s view of abundance.
Just fascinating!

Dear Evelyn
I must admit, this is what I’m going through right now in my life. Don’t know where to start to allow my healing to manifest. It’s a cycle, start a job, lose a job, and really go through hell trying to make ends meet with no income.
It’s been this way for several years now. Who can truly help me to set myself free?

I had not made the birth connection either, but it makes lots of sense. Also, I have thought about repeated patterns in relationships, but not so much with money. You’ve made lots of connections here that seem obvious…now! You’ve given me a lot to think about.

Hello Galen,

One can have a poor relationship with others but also can have a poor relationship with money. Money, like anything else, is energy. By healing and creating a loving relationship with money, you can experience greater financial well-being.

It’s great that my post has brought about more awareness 🙂

Love and abundance always,
Evelyn

Evelyn,
First, I have to say that I love the graphic!! So perfect for the money story. Secondly, I love your idea of looking at your birth story. Did you know that the Waldorf school asks this of parents when they accept a student to their school? I have been thinking a lot about my “money story” and the relationship to my upbringing. It’s fascinating when you can look at it with no attachment. I’ve thought about my parents and their parents and how the generations affect me and in turn how that affects my kids. Thanks for adding to my work and giving me some more to think about!!

Hello Betsy,

Thank you for your feedback on the graphic.

I had no idea about the requirement by Waldorf school. How interesting!

Yes, when we can look at our situation with a sense of non-attachment, we find that we are able to gain a much higher perspective. It’s great that you are making the attempt to connect the dots at the various generation levels. I wish you much success and healing!

Love and abundance always,
Evelyn

I read this article with regards to myself and your questions regarding one’s birth story particularly struck me too. I have a 17 year old daughter, adopted from an orphanage in Eastern Europe at the age two. Her mother gave birth and just left her. I am grappling with a whole host of issues with regards to her significant birth trauma, so much so I have not been looking at my own. We have been experiencing a lot of financial crises in the past couple of years and I fear the impact on her has made her even more insecure. Obviously, we must attend to our own issues and fix them. We want to protect our children but forget there is a child within ourselves who has never resolved her own issues, especially around deserving abundance, prosperity and love. I can see this so clearly in my lovely daughter, she is everything I would have wanted to be when I was her age and yet she doesn’t see it at all. Most of all I see, daily, that she never feels deserving of anything good. When she receives goodness, she can’t hold onto it. Perhaps, this can be said for all of us who don’t feel we really deserve all the goodness the Universe has to offer us. I love the line from the movie Mame, where she says something like this, “Life is a banquet, but most people are like beggars starving to death” Thanks for this insightful article…look forward to more. From a grateful mother.

Hello Lucy,

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate your letting me know that the article has been useful for you. I enjoyed reading the quote that you have highlighted.

Yes, definitely heal yourself first. Once you have done enough healing, you will be in a more empowered situation to help her. You will be in a position of strength and abundance, rather than in a position of insecurity and lack.

She is blessed to have you as a mother. You have lovingly accepted her into your family. There is no greater gift. You are also blessed to have her as your daughter, for you see in her a mirror of you.

Evelyn, you’ve really struck a chord here. I recently had this realisation that my money story – typical of a large number of money stories – is embedded in the perception that Earning Money has to be a result of Hard Work.
It certainly has been a perception handed down, as although affluent, my family history, similar to many Chinese immigrant stories, has a deeply held, deeply rooted belief that hard work is the only key to money.
I am slowly but surely changing the stories I am telling myself and more importantly I believe, I am working on not passing on the same money stories to my daughter.

Hello Li-ling,

Luckily we now know enough rather than limit ourselves with the same story. It is also great that you take the measures in not passing the same money stories to your daughter. Yaaayyy to conscious parenting!

Abundance always,
Evelyn
