50 Shades of Fear

50 shades of fear

I thought it would be interesting to share my perspective on 50 shades of fear. Clients had been coming to me with their issues which are rooted in various forms of fear. In case you are wondering, I did not read the book 50 Shades of Grey nor have watched the movie. However, I would like to borrow the theme of 50 shades.

As we already know, fear can manifest at different levels and degrees of negative emotions; which is influenced by the story that our minds tell. Our fears make up the stories we tell ourselves.

For instance, fear can be in the form of worry….or in more severe cases, it can grow into depression. Fear can also be in the form of nervousness or a diagnosed panic disorder. We can also express fear in the form of blame or if we feel it strongly, we become antagonistic. Obvious symptoms can range from breaking out in cold sweat, turning ashen white, or the racing of our hearts. Whether a niggling sense of anxiety or intense anger, all are signs of fear.

Our Reactions to Fear

We all react to fear differently.

To a similar situation, one person can experience minor irritation and another person, strong frustration. The first person may find it easy to drop his irritation. Or he may not. He may allow a string of irritations to fester until he feels strong frustration. In his mind, his fear stories seem real.

For the most part, instead of being present to fear, a lot of us have the habit of suppressing our emotions. Until we start to pay attention to our inner feelings of discomfort, we could be experiencing fear as something vague. Needless to say, without sufficient awareness, we end up with little idea that we are near breaking point, having suppressed our negative emotions for the longest time. A massive reaction to something seemingly small usually happens next.

Process the Shifting Shades of Fear

Then again, all this talk on 50 shades of fear is not to recommend that you dwell in it. Rather than suppression, it is to suggest that you find a safe outlet for your negative emotions. You don’t hide away nor fight your fear. You acknowledge what you are feeling and you create a healthy space for release.

In fact, it is what I do with those I work with. I get them to tune in to their emotional body to gain an idea of what they are actually feeling. The ultimate aim is to investigate into the root causes of the fear, much of which came from the past.

Very importantly, in order to track if there is a shift, I get my clients to score their emotional intensity. Our work together often culminates in an uplifting of their inner world, one that graduates from dark to light. Over the spectrum of greys, a release of discordant energies takes place.

Lighten Your Shade of Fear

Although some people use fear as a motivating force to drive actions, resonating in excessive fear over a prolonged period can have negative effects. Fear brings our vibrational states down. When unmanaged, it causes relationship breakdowns and destroys our overall wellness.

The opposite holds true when fear dissipates. Just as we dissipate fear, we start to tune into the positive emotions of peace, joy, contentment, bliss etc. It has been that way for people who have done inner work. For my clients, they report of experiencing amazing breakthroughs. They make more money, improve on their relationships and become happier people as compared to previously.

Positive results can happen that way for you too 🙂

On an experiential basis, you begin to realize that behind the deceptive stories of fear, is the separation that you have been feeling on the inside. Fear manifests into situations of conflict that you experience externally. When you transmute the shades of fear, you tune into the underlying essence of who you really are. Ultimately, love reunites you into wholeness.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
