Don’t Die with Your Music Still in You

“Don’t die with your music still inside you. Listen to your intuitive inner voice and find what passion stirs your soul.” – Wayne Dyer

“Alas for those that never sing, but die with all their music in them.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

Life is precious.

You probably already know this.

So how have you chosen to live life based on this awareness?

If life is precious, then surely it is important to live it well.

But, what does living well mean to you?

Well, the vast majority of people lead “make-do” lives, unfortunately.

They settle.

They prefer to take safe options, and not go for their dreams. They may mistakenly believe that it is the material goods that fulfill them, so they prefer to spend time chasing after these. They are not happy on a day-to-day basis because they are “not there” yet.

These people would rather procrastinate on their happiness. They adopt the “wait” syndrome, that is they dream of only doing the things they love upon retirement. Over the years, they may simply allow the music to die in them.

Twenty or fifty years from now, they will probably regret not giving themselves a chance to go for the things they love when they were young.

Don’t Die Just Yet

In the same vein to Wayne Dyer’s quote above, the phrase can also be….

Don’t die with your poetry still inside you.
Don’t die with your book still inside you.
Don’t die with your dance still inside you.

I have thought about death. I don’t have the intention to die with my music still inside me. More aptly, it is that I do not intend to die with my book still inside me. I may have already published my story in a book but I know there is a lot more from my soul that I hope to express. As I have discovered, my creative spirit is a restless but enduring one. She has plenty of ideas and waiting for me to attend to them.

There are some difficult decisions that I have made in order to do what I love. It has meant not going back to a well-paying career and to choose an arrangement that would also balance my family’s needs. I have also chosen not to think short-term but to make choices based on long term considerations. Many would probably consider some of my decisions unthinkable. In Singapore where I come from, the cost of living is a major concern and most people here prefer the security of a monthly salary.

I have been told that it takes a lot of guts to have chosen an alternative path. Well, it is my dream to live life on my own terms. It’s passion and purpose that fuels me to carry on in this work. Admittedly, there are days when I do feel tired. Things can get really busy from wearing multiple hats. But the fact is that I love what I do and it will be crazy to give it up and go back to a conventional office job, even though my kids are way past the toddler stage.

A Vision of Love, Aligned with Creativity and Purpose

(In the recording studio this year.)

My vision is to be a facilitator for the raising of love consciousness. I have long known that before I can fulfill this vision, I have start with myself – being self-love. And it is through greater self-awareness and having cried buckets of tears in my own cave that I can easily empathize with the pain and suffering that others are experiencing.

I enjoy being creative. At one stage, I sold graphic design, costume jewelry and art pieces on a part-time basis. But because I am now aligned with greater purpose, I channel my attention to producing creative works that can help make a difference to the lives of others. My fulfillment comes from being involved in a creative process that brings healing, love and meaning at a time when others need it most.

I have been tweaking my business model constantly in order to authentically reflect my values, passion and evolving vision. So making money becomes aligned with my purpose. I don’t pursue money from wanting to possess material items solely, but I acknowledge that money generated from the business can help me reach many more people around the world.

I intend to make a decent living with a spiritually conscious business. At the same time, I recognize that I have family responsibilities. Hence it is my desire to write books and programs, which will help support my family’s living expenses. Eventually, I hope to save up sufficiently with funds for an overseas University education for each of my two girls.

With a clear idea on an aligned vision that involves the creative expression of my soul, I have found myself becoming more productive and happier each day.

So What Stirs Your Soul?

Listen to Wayne Dyer’s story (from 5:16 min onwards into the video below) on how he came to wrote the quote “don’t die with your music still in you”….

Ask yourself…..

What burning desire have you buried?

What idea keeps you tossing and awake at 3am in the night?

What is the missing ingredient that will make your life complete?

The message from his video is this: You don’t need to die to experience source. You can die to the ego and live from the space of perfect love while you are here (on Earth).

Hence….

If you have been keeping an unfinished manuscript for a book in the drawer, it is time to take it out to complete it.

If you have composed a poem but not dared to show it to anyone, it is time to post it on your blog.

If you have not sung your song or dance your dance, then it is time to express yourself out loud.

Eliminate self doubt.

Don’t die with the music still in you.

“Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.”
– Angela Monet

There is no Better Time

You won’t know when death may occur.

Then again, why wait to do what you would love to do, even if your palmist tells you that you will live to a hundred?

If life is precious, surely every moment counts.

You can start doing the things that will bring you ultimate fulfillment.

You can start to be happy.

The thing is that the world does not need you to save it until you have learned to heal yourself.

Because when you are truly happy, you automatically uplift others with your energy.

You are happiest when you love what you do.

Hence, don’t procrastinate.

The time is now.

Be ready to rock the world!

To your dreams coming true,

I love how you consistently reinvent and reinvest in yourself — while staying on path, and following your North Star.

> make choices based on long term considerations.
That’s actually one of the secrets of success in life. It’s delayed gratification.

Some people have it. Some don’t. Some learn it. It’s a skill for life that serves you well. It also is what let’s us play the strategy game to win the war vs. the tactical game to win the battle.

Hello J.D.,

Making choices based on long term considerations may seem odd to a lot of people. I believe that it could be fear that keeps these people trapped in short-term thinking.

I don’t plan every single move. I just know the overall direction that I want to head towards. And as the time comes, the next move that I am guided to take and that will be aligned with the overall direction reveals itself.

Yes, winning the war and winning the battle are two very different things. I am glad that you have pointed it out.

Love and abundance always,
Evelyn

Such an important topic and one that I’ve been exploring with Patti Digh in her project 137 days. (http://www.37days.com/2012/08/project-137.html). For me it involves learning to live in the moment (still learning!) and not waiting for life to begin “someday”…THIS is my life, right here, right now. Big aha and practicing “living like I’m dying”.
Evelyn, I’m wondering are you a singer??? (picture of you in a recording studio!) If so, would you be willing to share some of your music with us?
Many blessings to you and the very important work you do. Kate

Hi Kate,

Exactly….what wait when you can start feeling happy right away!?!

Oh no, I am not a singer. I was recording a meditation audio for my life vision mastery program. That said, I have been exploring the healing powers of sound recently. I found out that there could be unexplored parts in me that offer new possibilities and potential. I was given the feedback that my humming” brought some vibrational healing to a friend of mine. Well, I am still in the exploratory stage….it is exciting times for me…wish me luck!

Love and abundance always,
Evelyn

This is very true.

“The Shift” is one of my favorite films. And Wayne Dyer’s line there “Don’t die with your music still in you” really struck me.

That’s also what I am trying to do, despite some struggles and obstacles. Thank you for showing people on the good fight for their dreams what is possible. I wish you light on your journey of doing what you love. =)

Hello Evelyn,

You always mention that nothing happens by chance. It happened because it was meant to happen and maybe because of the choices we make in life. I would like to thank you for the gift of your person. You are in the right path of life. Others may not agree with you, but what is more important is what is inside of us and if we are at peace at the end of the day. I enjoy reading your articles because you have also help me in my journey. If God willing, I would love to meet you someday. If ever you have a chance to be in the Philippines and if you have time, maybe we can meet . Again, thank you for all your shadings and God bless you and your family!
