Life Lessons That Will Turn Your Life Around

Life lessons are experiences to help us grow and evolve. They aren’t always pretty when we first encounter them. In fact, it is often the case that if we don’t learn them, we are likely to find ourselves going through the same negative situation over and over again.

Hence, if you are caught in repeated patterns, it helps to ask yourself what are the life lessons you are meant to learn.

I recall crying out in frustration, complaining in bitterness and reeling in pain over negative experiences that are of the same patterns in the past. A string of broken relationships. A stack of failures. A series of bad calls. It was only when I saw the light and chose to act differently that the same patterns stopped occurring.

I would like to share the life lessons that were written by Maya Angelou who was an American poet, singer, memoirist, and civil rights activist. Her words had made me stop to reflect. They were helpful reminders that life is happening FOR me, rather than to me. Perhaps, reading them for a start can do the same for you too.

Life Lessons by Maya Angelou

“I’ve learned that no matter what happens,
or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.
I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person
by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship
with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life.
I’ve learned that making a “living” is not
the same thing as making a “life.”
I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.
I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life
with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back.
I’ve learned that whenever I decide something
with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.
I’ve learned that even when I have pains,
I don’t have to be one.
I’ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone.
People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.
I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.
I’ve learned that people will forget what you said,
people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

The Gift of Life Lessons

We often get an “aha” feeling as soon as we realise what our life lessons are, in our presenting issue. I have noticed this often in my clients when it happens. Upon realisation, it is as if a huge weight has lifted and a sense of peace and calm would take over. A change in their appearance is a clear indication that an integration of life lessons has taken place at a deep level.

Invariably, the integration of lessons learnt is a lot more complete because their awareness happens during a therapeutic process that relates to their specific situation. As their facilitator, I acquire a level of peace and calm too. In fact, I consider it a privilege to be part of their soulful experience where a shift has occured 🙂

Ultimately, life lessons are gifts that teach you to love, to be stronger and to live each moment more fully. You peel the layers of the onion to reveal the gems of insight.  What is great is that as you integrate the lessons, the same karmic patterns are put NO longer on repeat. You stop the cycle of pain and suffering. You grow a lot wiser because of the life lessons that you’ve learnt.

You’ve just turned your life around with greater happiness, joy and fulfilment!

Thank you for the life lessons. I agree when it reflects on us and believe in yourself, anything is possible. There’s a better tomorrow too. Also life lessons by Maya Angelou, i like this personally. Thank you for this post.

I particularly liked and resonated with this line:
“Making a living isn’t the same as making a life”

Do you guys personally feel like the current education system is teaching kids how to make a living but not how to truly live a meaningful life?

I definitely feel that way and I’m on a mission to change that; I intend to help everyone in the world achieve self-actualization (big dream, I know); I’d love you to join me!
