What is Past Life Therapy? A FAQ Guide On Releasing The Past

Wondering if you should go for a past life therapy?

Perhaps you have got an inkling that the negative patterns that you are currently having stem from blocks that were created in past lives.

It’s not as if you have not tried to address your issues. You may have gone for some childhood therapy or counselling sessions, yet you are still stuck or feeling blocked. The same patterns keep repeating.

One great analogy is that you’ve been told not to touch a boiling kettle but you can’t stop yourself from doing so. Hence, you have to contend with burning your fingers over and over again. If anything, that you keep facing the same patterns is a sign that your issues are not fully resolved.

You are now thinking that perhaps your issues have a root cause from way back. If there is such a thing as past lives, you suspect that your issues could have started even prior to this incarnation. Then again, you can’t help but feel some doubt arising: is the thing about past life spiritual woo-woo?

Well, allow me to de-mystify what a past life therapy is. Find out what transformative shifts can happen during a session. Learn how you can finally address the root cause of your current life blocks and stop self-sabotaging patterns from repeating.

 That weird déjà vu feeling

If you start to recall, you may find out that the very idea that you may have had a past life was sparked off by a déjà vu feeling that you have inavertantly tuned into. Here are some examples….

– You met someone for the first time and you suddenly feel as if you know him or her at a soul level.

– You find yourself drawn to ancient spiritual sites such as Egypt and you can’t stop finding more about them, eventually planning a visit yourself.

– You are specially drawn to movies about time machines and story lines that intersperse past and current lives (korean dramas in particular!)

–  You went somewhere for the first time and you are able to recognize the place as if you’ve been there previously.

– You like dressing in clothes that belong to a past era.

– Or your mannerisms, spiritual practices or things you like point to a time in the past.

Let me just say….it’s no coincidence that you are reading this article too!

Many spiritual practices believe that the souls return to Earth over several lifetimes to learn, grow and evolve. When we reincarnate, we meet the same souls. Over lifetimes, we work through our unresolved issues together. When we struggle or encounter blocks, there is a specific lesson that we need to learn. The lesson is necessary for our spiritual evolution.

My Personal Experiences

A long long time ago, while I was in the library and browsing the shelves for something to borrow, a book “flew off the shelves” and caught my attention. At that time, I had not embarked on a spiritual path. I was just looking for a great book to read. My curiosity was aroused after reading the back cover.

I proceeded to borrow the book. It’s titled “Many Masters Many Lives” and written by an American psychiatrist, Dr. Brian Weiss. According to Weiss, in 1980 one of his patients, “Catherine”, began having past-life experiences while under hypnosis. At that time, Weiss did not believe in reincarnation. However, after research, he found out about the survival of the soul after physical death. Needless to say, I was intrigued.

It was a few years after reading the book that I unknowingly ventured into various personal experiences in dream-like meditative states. Due to my own experiences, I have been prompted to look into how our current life blocks are related to past events…even extending to previous incarnations. The last I checked, Weiss claims he has regressed more than 4,000 patients himself since 1980.

Fast forward today, I facilitate sessions for those who are stuck or feeling blocked due to a trigger in the past. We investigate into the past to uncover what their subconscious blocks are. Lately, what has been interesting are cases of clients going back in time; not just to childhood events in the current life. The clients found themselves describing  scenes that indicated a previous lifetime for a resolution of their presenting blocks.

Our discovery was that the root cause was a limiting belief formed, a poverty vow taken or a negative pattern that was created due to a triggering situation in a past life.

As I’ve been encountering more and more cases like these, I have now decided to formally list offering past life therapy sessions as one of my services for those who could be interested in having one 🙂

What Is Past Life Therapy?

Past life therapy can be conducted with variations in the way that you are being brought into a relaxed state of mind for memory recall and the healing modality involved. It is a general term that can also be known as past life hypnosis, past life regression, timeline therapy sessions and so on. Whatever it is, a trained past life therapist takes you through a process in a way that is safe, structured and supportive.

If your unconscious mind is showing you a picture of yourself in a different era, it points to the possibility that you have once incarnated before. A great question that I get asked a lot is if it is possible to see your own past life without going through a therapy session. The answer is yes!

It is possible to see your own past life without going to a practitioner. You can access information while in the alpha or meditative state. An inner knowing or the ability to see a visual picture with a sensory experience lets you know that what you are accessing is from a different lifetime.

However, you may wish to still get some guidance from a practitioner . The added benefit is if you want to work on clearing the somatic, psychological and spiritual aspectst that form the root cause of your current life problems. While the specific clearing or releasing technique may differ, a past life therapy session offers the opportunity for healing and transformation to occur!

What Does a Past Life Therapy Entail

Perhaps you are familiar with getting a tarot or spiritual reading. From getting a psychic or spiritual reading, you may want to progess to taking a past life therapy session. A past life therapy session is not to be confused with a past life reading, which is a passive process.

For a regression therapy session, a therapist uses hypnosis or relaxation techniques to help you get into an alpha or theta state for memory recall. Someone who uses timeline therapy guides you with visualizing a timeline that takes you into the past or the future. A practitioner or therapist may also use energy healing methods to help you release the traumatic patterns from past life memories. Each falls under the big umbrella of past life therapies.

During a past life therapy session, you go back in time in an altered state of consciousness. It could be that you start with a vague recall of a memory in your mind at first but as you play the mental movie, it becomes a full sensory experience. It is also when you start to experience real emotions.

You may feel the searing pain of an arrow piercing over your heart or the heaviness of the burden that you carry on your shoulders. The sensation may also well be a deep sense of despair over the wretchedness of your poverty situation . Or the torrent of stones being hurled at you, while shame hangs like a cloud over you. These sensations come up as if you are experiencing them in the here and now.

What a past life therapist does is to hiold space so that you can process through what has been left unresolved in the past. The past you that you see are parts of yourself htat have been trapped in time bubbles. Through the session, you are better able to free these parts of your soul, as well as integrate the lessons that you need to learn.

Will You Be Stuck in the Past By Doing Past Life Therapy Sessions?

Another common question that often comes up is: will you be stuck in the past or be known as indulging in make-believe?

If what you see in your mind points to a diferent era, we work with whatever information your unconscious highlights, to bring about a shift. Whether the mental imagery is make-believe or not, you know that there is a disruption going on if you start to feel highly emotional. Of less importance are details of who you were previously in that lifetime. Only information that can help you process your emotions, identify the root blocks and perform the clearing work are key.

I firmly believe that you are not meant to relive the memories as if they are currently happening in the same disruptive manner. Yet, the past offers important information on how you can create a shift right now. Regression therapists guide you back in time for a resolution.

Past Life Therapy is an Integrative Spiritual Process

A past life therapy session simply refers to an active process whereby you are involved in the memory recall. The process is a lot more integrative than simply getting a reading done. You are guided to get spiritual messages or gain wise insights.

What you need to note is this: the past offers transformative information for you to integrate spiritual lessons into the now. You do what it takes to clear root blocks that prevent you from getting a breakthrough. The past may be gone but how you live today creates your future.

Consider getting a past life therapy session if you are in the following situations…

  • trapped in repeating self-sabotaging patterns that obstruct success or ability to attract financial abundance.
  • caught in recurring relationship problem eg attracting abusive men, repeated marriage failures, etc

Thank you for explaining past life therapy. It’s good to know that during a session you should go back in time in an altered state of consciousness. Perhaps it could be good to have enough time planned for a session to really make sure it’s not rushed and you can enjoy the therapy to the fullest.
