Master Your Life Lessons

Your soul attends lessons in its physical incarnations. One such school where lessons are held is Earth. If Source is Divine Love, your soul can only know itself through experiences of joy or even pain and suffering.

Your soul evolves when you are able to master your human experiences. In the physical form, you grow from being an ego-centered, limited and negative individual to one who is spirit conscious, free and divine in your expression.

Earth is a place where souls come together for a journey of experiences. It is where you and I can serve each other as teachers and students. It is a wonderful plane to be in. It is where you can obtain feedback about the choices you have made. If you have made unwise choices and not managed to learn from your life experiences, your soul returns lifetime after lifetime to go through essentially the same lesson. (Energetic information about your life lessons can also be obtained from your Akashic Records since they contain every word, thought or action.)

School Curriculum on Earth

Prior to incarnation, you decide on the “subject” you hope to learn. From the time you are born, you will draw learning experiences to yourself to enable you to progress through your chosen life lesson. If you get “stuck” and are not able to progress, you will find yourself having experiences of the same lesson repeatedly.

Earth is known as an opportunity school. You get chances over and over again to retake the same tests. Sometimes you may not be able to recognize these tests because they are presented in different forms. However, they essentially revolve around the same learning that you need to gain mastery over. It is also possible that you carry forward a specific life lesson into future lifetimes, if you are not able to complete what you need to learn in one.

Findings are also often that your soul will also choose to incarnate with those with whom you have been facing challenges with. In client readings, it is not uncommon to find records of betrayal, abandonment and trauma across lifetimes. Where lessons are mutual between two souls, roles can get switched for different lifetimes for the same class. The betrayed in one lifetime can also be the one who betrays in the next. The hurt becomes the bully in the next. The victim becomes the attacker. Or, it is also possible that both souls betray, hurt or abandon each other in the same lifetime.

Lessons are completed when souls graduate from the said class lesson in the physical dimension. Completion with just a “pass” grade in one lifetime may mean that you need to sit the test again but at a secondary level in your next lifetime. In short, a primary lesson becomes a secondary life lesson in the next. As you move up the ladder of consciousness, your soul evolves.

Passing Life Tests

Passing life tests starts with realization. You realize what your life lessons are about, in the challenges that life poses. You ask yourself what repeated patterns you see that are played out in your various life aspects: family, relationships, career, play, health and physical environment? What is the similar theme? Is it about abandonment, betrayal, shame, guilt, loss, rejection, struggle, etc?

Awareness is critical in understanding the truth and the reality of your experiences. Your awakening is the key to shattering your previously tightly-held false beliefs, perceptions and ideas. You realize also that you are not your story. Your essence lies in what-is-not.

In simple terms, you no longer react badly to difficult life situations. Your reactions move from negative to neutral and then positive. Previously viewing a negative event as a difficulty, you now perceive it as a challenge. Finally, with an even deeper understanding, you are able to use the event as a valued opportunity to learn important life lessons. You experience a change in paradigm.

You understand that your school tests are probably mirroring the thoughts you have inside. If it is fear that you hold inside, it will be a test that teach you on courage. If it is about a sense of rejection, then the test will be a lesson on unconditional love. If your thoughts are about struggle, then the test will be teach you about divine abundance. Through your state of Being, you constantly adjust your energetic vibrations until you are able to experience more and more positive outcomes.

You are no longer the life story that your ego has been saying you are. You give up the drama, the role of the helpless, traumatized and miserable victim that you have been playing up to. With continual practice, you get better and better in dealing with difficult situations. You now live in grace, peace and harmony for all there is. You are on top of your life lessons. You come tops in your school exams.

Graduate With Flying Colors

Ultimate life lesson mastery is when you do well in your school curriculum. You graduate at University Level with a PHD. I believe that the certificate awards you with an “enlightened” accreditation as well. Your certificate is kept in your Akashic Records. The truth of your Being is available for all to come to know. The entire Universe is in cosmic celebration with the mastery of your soul.

Graduating with flying colors involves living your Highest purpose. Your purpose on Earth is one of carrying out unselfish acts of serving humanity. You serve meaningfully. Through embracing your spiritual self, you embody the highest human potential to everyone else. This means that you are in total alignment with Divine Love, Light and Truth. You are at peace with your every moment of now in the physical dimension. You are the living expression of all of Divinity.

More On Life Lessons

I am moving on to writing a series of articles on life lessons, after my posts on ego. My thoughts are that adopting a bigger perspective to your current life situation allows you to choose your reactions differently. You are in better charge. Life becomes less of a struggle and more of a joy to live in.

My questions to you are: What is your current life situation about? Notice any repeated patterns? What classes are you currently taking?

Peace,

Love the idea of a series on life lessons. I actually just wrote an article (not for my blog) about how life is a classroom. We are being taught every day but we can choose whether or not we want to learn. I really enjoyed reading what you’ve put down here. Great stuff!

Ming - May 25, 2009

Dear Evelyn, a lot of profound things said here. I really enjoyed reading and pondering. A few things came back to me from the reading you did for me as well! Let’s go for that total alignment! I look forward to reading more from you! Thank you!

anonymous - May 25, 2009

Hi Evelyn,

This is exactly what I been asking from my self too. I sat down today and wrote about my life patterns and now I got this article in my reader. What a co-incidence. I have been trying to lose weight for quite some time now. I start my diet and exercise but two weeks in to it I totally lose my motivation. But today I realized that whenever I start any project I never get to finish it. I never get to finish my college either. I dropped out in the first year. I looked deep inside my self and asked why I am being like this and found out that when I was in 6th grade my mother told me that I never finish my projects and my little sister always get to finish anything she starts and after that a lot of times I got to hear that from different people but I never said or did anything about it. All this time i felt that I was stuck but now I am aware of what really is going on. I just need some more clarity. Thanks for the post. Its a sign that I am heading into right direction now.

I can agree words can affect us for our life. They have affected me for the longest while. Now you that know you; can make that change in your life and realize that you alone are in control of your life…along with God. You can make anything happen through strength and faith. If you believe that you can change yourself then it will happen. Faith…is a powerful thing!

Srinivas Rao - May 25, 2009

Given that my blog is called The Skool of Life, I couldn’t agree more with all of what you’ve said here. Life is an education, just not in the sense that we’ve traditionally defined it. Awesome post.

Victor Tan - May 26, 2009

Dear Evelyn, I thought this was a great post linking souls to tests, exams, PhD, graduation etc…haha… as a graduating student, I am PRECISELY EXPERIENCING all these NOW! 😛

I hope I can graduate well and increase my soul vibration energy more in time to come..

Thanks again for this nice post

Cheers

J.D. Meier - May 26, 2009

Luckily the school of life is year round, though every now and then it would be great to take a Summer off 😉

I draw from a lot of things, but especially books, people, and quotes. At work, I’m like a kid in the candy store. I see a bunch of amazing people with super skills. I want it all. Everybody I know has some unique gift and I do what I can to learn what I can from them.

While online is a schmorgasboard of learning opportunities, I find it tough to find the unique gems, but that’s part of the hunt. Lately, a few books are really rocking my world.

I’ve been collecting my life lessons for a while, but haven’t started sharing them yet. I’m trying to find a decent way to organize them for quick consumption.

Hilda - May 26, 2009

Hi Evelyn,

According to my Akashic Records, balance is the life lesson I’m here to learn, and boy am I feeling that need right now 😉 Working towards it though . . .

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Marelisa - May 26, 2009

Hi Evelyn: As someone who’s had a lot of schooling, I can relate to the concept of thinking of life’s trials as lessons to be learned so that you can get your certificate and move on to the next lessons. Although I must say, sometimes I feel like I’m going for my third “life” Ph.D. 🙂

Kikolani - May 26, 2009

I think that one of the classes I’m taking now is how to learn something completely different in a new way. I have always been good at learning things that I could learn strictly with my mind. But now I’m taking tennis and dancing lessons, and both require you to learn with your body, something I have a really tough time to do. And my history has been if I couldn’t learn something quickly, to give up and move on, so I’m having to fight that urge and keep with both of these things. Although they are difficult, they are possible.

Thanks for this post. For me, it’s been owning the part of myself that’s kind of a mean bully and always thinks it’s right. I resolved never to act or even think that way when I was a very little kid, but the result was that the repressed part turned into an attacking inner voice. By just saying nasty and critical things out loud recently when I’m by myself, I’ve been reconciling with that part.

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

@Positively Present, I missed reading the article you wrote and will do so in a minute. I’m interested to read another perspective. Thanks for liking the post here!

@Ming, it’s great to know that my post invoked more thought. I’m glad that you are experiencing wonderful results from your reading. Good for you!!

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

Anonymous,

It’s great that my post reaffirms your recent realizations. I’m glad that you are able to recognize the repeating patterns to determine the common theme played out throughout your whole life. In a way, you have broken free!! You can choose to do things differently from now!

To your Divine Power,
Evelyn

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

@Srinivas, it’s wonderful that more of us see life as a big classroom with different topics – and not just the traditional subjects – to learn.

@Victor, I’m glad that you can relate to this post. Life has classes even for the littlest things. Awareness is key! We need to open our hearts and minds to understanding the natural laws of the Universe.

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

J.D. Meier,

You make a wonderful student. You’ve got this thirst for knowledge. I’d be interested to read your life lessons. My notes are also not very organized at the moment. Having the intention of publishing them gives me the incentive to lay everything out in a coherent manner. Also, although I have no clear idea what they are going to be or be like, I know that they will come out in Perfect Order.

All the best,
Evelyn

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

@Hilda, it’s great that you are working on your life lesson. Oh yes…do stay tuned!

@Marelisa, I’m not sure if I am doing a “PhD” for my classes on life now. I find that there is really so much to learn. Not that I am really complaining. The journey can be quite fun!

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

Kristi,

So your lessons are on creativity, building mind-body harmony, and persistence? Great ones to be working on!!!

All the best,
Evelyn

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

Chris,

I read your comment with much thought. It’s interesting how you turn against yourself instead. You are working on self criticism? From working with clients, I would like to add that many of us are working on the same too. We tend to be harshest towards ourselves. I’m glad to know that you are using a method that can provide much healing.

With metta,
Evelyn

Daphne @ Joyful Days - May 26, 2009

Hi Evelyn,

What a fascinating analogy to school, and the whole concept of our souls incarnating on Earth in order to learn some lessons helps us to understand why sometimes we repeat behaviours and patterns – that is what the soul is here to resolve.

I feel that understanding is the life lesson I have to learn now. Understanding life, understanding others, understanding myself.

Vered - MomGrind - May 26, 2009

Moving from viewing a negative event as a difficulty, to viewing it as a challenge, and finally to viewing it as a learning opportunity, sounds great. I’m still at the difficulty phase. 🙂

anonymous - May 26, 2009

Hi Evelyn, I want you to correct me if I am wrong in answering your question “What classes are you currently taking”?
My answer.”I am taking classes of perseverance, determination and commitment.” Is that right? I really need your guidance.

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

Daphne,

Information about life lessons, Earth as a place of learning and soul incarnations are available via the Akashic Records. You can also access the information through past life regressions, intuitive readings, astral travel, etc.

There are also books written by clinical hypnotherapists like Dr Brian Weiss and Dr Michael Newton who documented their work or books that are channeled from ascended masters or Spirit. In all, the findings are that we are here to go through life lessons to evolve our souls.

I think I know what you mean by the understanding of life. It is the same for me too. I hope to learn to be in harmony with my every moment of now. I believe that doing so will bring me towards greater alignment to the truth of who I am.

All the best to your spiritual quest!
Evelyn

Evelyn - May 26, 2009

@Vered, I can get sometimes stuck at the difficulty phase too. However, it’s great to know what a change in paradigm can be. It means that I can allow myself to take gradual steps in my progression. It gives me hope on the highest human potential that can be available.

@anonymous, I am not sure what your current situation is to determine if you are indeed taking classes of “perseverance, determination and commitment”. I am guessing that you are right, if you have been finding that you do not complete your projects, give up halfway and are fearful of taking up responsibility.

Dot - May 26, 2009

I also love the idea of a series on life lessons, since I have so many questions about them.

I’m definitely at the difficulty stage. As you know, my current lessons are about illness upon illness, but I can’t figure out what the solutions are supposed to be. What confuses me about life lessons is that, in every other subject I’ve studied, there have been classes and textbooks. In life, you don’t even know you’re in school until somebody tells you, and then you have to guess what subject you’re taking. You don’t get any classes or textbooks, but you’re expected to take exams anyway.

Since I like it here on earth so much, maybe I should continue flunking, so I can keep coming back? 🙂

Celes | EmbraceLiving.Net - May 26, 2009

I absolutely agree that everyone’s lives seem to be surrounded by a certain theme. After I started pursuing my purpose full-time, I started becoming more conscious of the themes that each person around me revolves around. I have friends whose life themes are fear, pessimism, mistrust, etc. It’s really interesting. For me, I believe the lesson that I’m learning now is of discipline – I believe that once I pass this, it’ll help to take me to a higher level. Thanks for such an insightful post Evelyn.

Dragos Roua - May 27, 2009

Thanks for sharing that, Evelyn and really look forward for the series. As one of your more than satisfied clients for Akashic Readings I can only say that you have a gift here. A gift for seeing but also a gift for describing. The reality you picture is powerful, healing and true.

I’m in the middle of the greatest crisis of my life to date, and it has to do with my life lesson, which pertains to my life’s work.

Lisa (mommymystic) - May 27, 2009

Evelyn, I actually came back to this post, as I had some resistance to reading it the first time – not because of the ideas presented, but because of the words ‘lessons’ and ‘tests’ which I have always resisted. I think in my own path, because I had been such an achiever personality in my youth, that pattern of ‘achieving’ actually became a stumbling block to my spiritual growth, because I tried to ‘achieve’ enlightenment, and of course it doesn’t work that way. But I know you are really using this school idea as a metaphor. Perhaps my resistance to this is itself signaling some of my current patterns:-)
Other than that, I think the patterns of my current life situation all seem to do with becoming more vocal, more outspoken, which really surprises me. In several different arenas I am being asked to lead, to speak for others, or to advocate in an ‘activist’ kind of way, which was never my style. So I am sorting out to what extent this is a natural step in owning my power, and to what extent it could be a trap of the ego…

Davina - May 27, 2009

Hi Evelyn. My grandmother used to tell me “We’re all in school in this life, and each one of us is in different grades”. It made sense to me even at that young age.

What classes am I currently taking? I’m repeating the second semester of “Trust 123”, and have also enrolled in an extracurricular activity of “ImprovSMART” 🙂

Evelyn - May 27, 2009

Dot,

I know that you don’t seriously mean wanting to come back to repeat the same lessons!! It may well be that your lessons center on having trust about Universal Energy. Regarding your illnesses, I was just reviewing some material for healing. I’m going to send you an email, just in case you wish to check up this method which is taught in the U.S. and apparently with amazing results.

Take care,
Evelyn

Evelyn - May 27, 2009

@Celes, I’ve been having some fun while looking into some of the patterns in my life. The “aha” moments give me a high…LOL!

@Dragos, you’ve been so kind in your feedback. I am very grateful for your validation of my work. I’m lucky to have customers and readers such as yourself. It’s wonderful that you resonated well with what I do.

Evelyn - May 27, 2009

@Paul, it’s great that you agree with what’s said in a single line!

@Maureen, I wish you every success in coming up tops!

Evelyn - May 27, 2009

Lisa,

What do you know??!!? Your feedback helped me to examine my thoughts about “lessons” and “tests”. I cannot thank you enough!! I managed to experience some breakthrough. I don’t have the words to describe the process of unfolding for me in a coherent manner now; perhaps I would be able to do so in a later stage. However, I would like you to know you’ve inadvertently assisted me in letting go of some of my thought-attachments, while examining some of my own blocks.

I do not have the same issues in terms of achieving because I have never quite pushed myself to excel. Enlightenment has also never been a “goal” that I sought. Nevertheless, I was most interested to understand more about your resistance from your perspective. I can now see where your difficulty came from.

It’s great that you have the awareness to notice the patterns that are happening in your life. I am not sure that I am detecting ego issues for you but I can certainly attest to feeling that you will make a great teacher because you’ve got so much knowledge to share! I wish you every clarity and wisdom in your life choices!

Peace, love and light,
Evelyn

Evelyn - May 27, 2009

Davina,

You had me laughing with your comment!! I’m also taking the same “trust 123” class too!! Your ECA also sounds something like I’ve already joined!

Thanks for the smile on my face 🙂

Stacey / Create a Balance - May 28, 2009

I am all about life lessons. They are everywhere if we are open to searching for them. I am currently taking classes in stillness. I’m learning to meditate so I can benefit from all of the rewards of stillness.

Lisa (mommymystic) - May 28, 2009

Wow, Evelyn, thanks so much for your response. I don’t often come back to a post after I’ve left comments, but something made me do so today, and I’m glad I did. I actually was feeling like maybe my comment came off as critical of your post, which wasn’t what I meant at all, and I had wanted to clarify. But apparently we both got something from this exchange, and your insight and support in your response are something of an omen to me, in terms of life changes I have been contemplating. So thanks:-)

Evelyn - May 28, 2009

Stacey,

Stillness is a lovely lesson. I take that almost everyday. I enjoy the aliveness that can sometimes com from a session in stillness.

All the best to your spiritual journey!
Evelyn

Evelyn - May 28, 2009

Lisa,

I’m happy that you were back here too. Oh no…I didn’t take your comments to be critical. Your thoughts were largely shaped by your own experiences. You were merely sharing your point of view.

In general, if I experience any feelings of criticism, then it represents an opportunity to understand what my resistance is about. I use a range of techniques to help myself overcome my blocks. I call the learning that comes from it is a “lesson”….LOL! I view it as something that I need to evolve from. Words like “lessons” or “classes” make things very understandable for myself and to a lot of people.

Then again, as mentioned to Daphne previously, well known clinical hypnotherapists had documented and used words like “life lessons” too based on reports from their clients in their trance in-between lives (thereby meaning as a spirit and not as a human) state.

However, words or thoughts will never form our Truth until we are the ones having the direct experience of knowing the real nature of things. Also, what works for me in terms of seeing things in their true light may not work for you. You have your own unique path. There is also every beauty in diversity.

I encourage you to go for the life changes you are contemplating on, if they resonate well. Even if it is a wrong step that you take, there is no such thing as failure, only feedback!! In other words, you have everything to gain by stepping up!

Peace, love and light,
Evelyn

Evelyn,

You present life lessons in a way that is easy to understand and is also hopeful. I like the idea that we are here to learn and experience lessons. I also like that we are give many opportunities to learn our lessons.

In your post, I particularly was taken with this line, “Passing life tests starts with realization. You realize what your life lessons are about, in the challenges that life poses.”

I think it’s very important to do as you said and look at the repeating scenes in your life. I know in mine, I see fear of betrayal and abandonment, which leads to lack of trust.

Knowing this, when I feel hurt and angry at someone, I always try to ask myself if I’m feeling betrayed or abandoned in some way. If the answer is yes, then I know I need to mentally say STOP…this is your past, not your present.

You are an excellent teacher, Evelyn. Thanks:~)

Evelyn - June 1, 2009

@Robin, thanks for your kind and lovely feedback! I’m glad that you enjoyed that sentence.

@Lance, oh yes….there can be lessons in almost every aspect of life. If only we can stop to reflect and ponder sometimes….

@Mike, I am glad that you like my Warrior post. Most certainly, it is a reminder about not beating ourselves up in the face of failure, and to embrace ourselves in every way. It’s great that you are encouraging others to not fear trying!! Good one there!

Evelyn - June 1, 2009

Sara,

You are a great student, if this post has in any way taught or reminded you something. I’m happy for you in your soul growth. It can pose quite a challenge initially in identifying patterns of negative behavior, actions or events. Once you are able to see the reality of your situation, you would have started transcending your trails and tribulations.

All the best to your spiritual growth,
Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

As kids we were told we would have to go to “the school of hard knocks” to learn life lessons. Over the years I attended that school many times. It was there I learned what really makes a difference in life. It’s all about the choice we make.

Your Warrior post also touches on this with the words, “the great wisdom of the Warrior lies in choosing his insanity wisely. ” Isn’t that the truth?
