Planting Seeds of Intent: Creation. Creativity. Gratitude.

The intent or power word that best resonates with me right now is Creation. It represents the birthing of ideas into fruition. It is about the need to be authentic to my inner vision and to trust that the marketplace will support me in my work. In being authentic, it is about claiming ownership what is inherent in me all along – my creative self. Of course, Creation and Creativity springs from Abundance – the power word which drives my overall intent and this blog.

Nature Tapestry Calendar for 2010 available at Affirmation Mart.

Creativity

For a long time, I associated creativity with artistic talents. Well, I never did not have the chance to develop my artistic abilities from young. Perhaps it was because I did okay in my academic results. So there never was a reason for me to consider studying art seriously. After all, based on popular beliefs and perhaps back in the old days for the majority of artists, the creative profession was never known to be a career that paid well. Compare that to being a banker, accountant, lawyer or a doctor. And so I never got that much of a chance to pick up the paint brush as much as I would like to have.

What was great was once I started my banking career, however, I could afford classes that encourage creativity. I dabbled in pottery, folk art, jewelry design, and graphic design in my spare time. At one stage, I also made some loose change from selling my creations; even though I did not have any proper qualifications. The beginning signs of an entrepreneur? However, I put a stop to all my hobbies with the birth of my two girls.

About three to four years back, I started focusing on inner work. I spent my available time doing energy releases, past life clearing and meditation; as first helping myself, then my family, friends and clients. There was hardly time for anything else, on top of minding my two young kids.

What emerged interestingly, was the chance to develop other aspects of creativity with the rise of this blog. Writing for it allowed me self-expression. I found myself happily designing headers, and spending hours making mind movies, creating videos, amending my photos, etc. I did almost everything on my own. In the last year, I started also using my own photos to go with the posts I publish. Okay…so I didn’t follow the rulebook of top internet marketers – that is to outsource design work to freelancers in India. But hey, I really enjoyed myself in the process!!

And so it is for me. Creativity is not just about painting a picture or designing a logo. It is how I can integrate many aspects of my life together in a creative output. Work is a seamless expression of my true nature. I still do not have all the answers on how the “final” output is going to look like. I suspect that there is no “final” product to begin with. Because my work is constantly evolving. Who I am is constantly evolving.

I make the intent to bring out the playful, creative and fun side of myself even greater this year. When I work from an inner creative space, I am connected to my feelings. In the silence, I can guided by an inner voice on how best to express myself. I am no Picasso but most certainly, my works are creations made with love.

(In a recent survey titled “I Can’t Get No…Job Satisfaction, That Is”, a survey funded by 2000 corporations around the world showed job satisfaction at lowest level. While other polls showed relatively stable numbers, this survey reported a decline. What was interesting to me was that in the same newspaper report – Straits Times Monday Jan 18 – it was said that the happiest workers are people in helping professions or doing creative work!! )

Creation

Incidentally, I received a number of “signs” that have affirmed the same power word of Creation for me. For instance, when I used my favorite pack of divination cards at the start of this year, I pulled out “Ostara: Fertility” card. On the card were the words “It is the perfect time for you to start new projects, access new ideas, and give birth to new conditions”.

Most certainly, with a card like “Ostara”, you won’t find me sitting on my butt and twiddling my thumbs for too long!

Gratitude

I started the year with the intent of “Inspiration” but had a gnawing feeling that I wanted something new to connect with. With regards to intent of inspiration, as of some time ago, I have decided that I would like to inspire others through my site. My intent is to show others the qualities with which I craft my life, inspiring others to do the same with theirs.

Then, I woke up this morning with the word: Gratitude. I realized that in recent weeks, I kept coming to the message of showing thanks and appreciation in several places. I have more thoughts to share on this. Do keep a lookout for the post!

Year of Planting Seeds

Life is one big adventure for me! Naturally so, ever since I have taken the less trodden path of becoming self-employed. I believe that 2010 will be another exciting year for me.

I have started the year with the birth of Affirmation Mart. It sure seems to be the year for planting seeds and watching them take root and grow.

Well, let’s just see how my intent of Creation, Creativity and Gratitude plays out! I look forward to the unfolding of my journey!! May the fun begin!

Niceeee! Although I’m not intro gardening, planting psychological seeds makes a lot of sense to me. You could say I’m a long term hedonist. I focus on doing now what will give me consistent pleasure or results later.

Good for you, Eduard! Thumbs up to working smart! I like the idea of making wise choices in what we focus energy on. The thing is also to enjoy the journey!

Wow, Evelyn. Congrats on a creative start to an abundant year! Your store looks so pretty, and got me wanting a store of my own too! Can’t wait to see what else you do this year…

Hey Daphne,

Happy New Year to you! How have you been?

Oh yes….I recall now! Both of us did share with each other our dreams about owning an online store. I didn’t have exact plans back then. But come to think of it….now that you’ve made me remember, I do have an idea stashed somewhere on an online store selling something different. Hmmm….

To your abundance in 2010,
Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

Congratulations on the creation of Affirmation Mart! I am very happy for you. May the upcoming year be filled with numerous blessings!

Like you, I believe in the importance of setting intentions. We are the creators of our reality. I have no doubt about that.

As for me, I have a huge project in the works (besides moving to another location) too! 🙂

Evelyn Reply:

Hi Nadia,

How wonderful for you! It sure sounds like magic! That we are all working on new projects and getting our intentions going!

Moving to a new location signifies a new beginning. Be sure to choose an auspicious date!

Wishing you all the best in your endeavors,
Evelyn

Evelyn, I looked at your Affirmation Mart the other day and absolutely loved it. Congratulations, you are an inspiration for me!

You also actually helped me to shape the idea I had in my head. I plan on getting a permanent location for Positivity Place here in Atlanta, the project I am working on now. Ideally I would want to have a place where there will be room for various personal development workshops, classes etc, then a room for people to just do something on their own – maybe meditate, or set their goals etc. And I would also love to eventually have a shop and cafe there, maybe not right away, but after we grow. I have a great idea for cafe, but I was thinking about what I would want to offer at the shop. I thought it should be something inspirational, with a meaning. Now I know that I will offer somethings similar to what you have at you Affirmation Mart. Thank you for this great inspiration, you helped to completely shape my idea. Of course there are still lots of things that need to be done in order for that to happen, but at least I have a complete vision in my mind now.

Evelyn Reply:

Hello Lana,

Good for you!! When I was doing up my store, I was thinking to myself that it was not so much that I wanted to sell things to my readers here. It was more to inspire everyone to take action and bring ideas into fruition. Launching my site at the start of the year hopefully will pump everyone up…haha! It seems like it’s working!

I would love to visit you in your permanent location one day. I was reminded of beautiful Atlanta just last night while dining with two Israeli friends who had flown in for some business. We were sharing with each other on places we have been.

I have already got a group going and have plans for it to grow! Workshops, classes and meditation exercises are big on my drawing board this year!

Let’s continue to inspire each other, shall we?

With love,
Evelyn

Evelyn, so glad to hear about your group, it’s exciting! Would love to visit you too some day and look foward to hearing how things unfold for you this year. Best of luck to you with all of your projects! When do you find time for everything – blog, the store, I know you offer consulting, workshops and classes for the group, plus two kids! That’s amazing.

Evelyn Reply:

Okay….I am not going to say that everyday is great going for me! Like everyone else, I have got my challenging moments. But the trick is with taking things in stride. And to ask and get help whenever I need assistance.

All the best to you, Lana! Stay connected!

With love,
Evelyn

Evelyn,
Congratulations on the creation of Affirmation Mart! May it be all that you wish it to be, plus more.
This sentence stands out to me: “Creativity….how I can integrate many aspects of my life together in a creative output..” The idea of integrating each area of life resonates with me.
Creation contains such beauty and potential…I am excited to see how this word will lead you….
Joy

Evelyn Reply:

Hi Joy,

Oh yes! I think the potential for integrating every aspect of our lives is greater with self-employment. Work is an expression of who I really am inside. And it is really up to me to craft it according to the way I like it to be.

Wishing you all the best in your journey too!

With love,
Evelyn

You are wise Evelyn in taking the path of growth; few people ever choose this path for the very reason that it will alter their accustomed state of things.

The moment we chose the path of growth, our creativity is unleashed. I have never associated creativity with art. For me creativity is the divine force that gives us knowing. Our old ways has prevented us from exercising our natural state of creativity. 🙂

Evelyn Reply:

Walter,

I certainly agree that most people will find it hard to break free from the lifestyle that they are so used to. To begin with, I have to take a leap of faith. There had also been days when I stopped to wonder if I knew what I was doing.

I enjoyed your explanation of what creativity meant. Indeed, I have found it to be true that our creativity comes forth when we decide to take the less conventional path.

With love,
Evelyn

Hi Evelyn!

I think your “money magnet” affirmation mart is a super idea that will resonate with a lot of people. Congratulations on your launch.

It is fascinating to read your life evolution and hearing you realize creativity does not necessarily mean having artist skills. Creativity can be woven into our everyday life in as many ways as we choose. It sounds like an exciting time for you! Enjoy.

Evelyn Reply:

Hello Jannie,

I choose to honor my creative self going forward. I think it has been bursting to come out more to play! Thank you for your warm wishes!

I wish you much abundance in 2010 and beyond!

Hi Evelyn,
Happy New Year! It is such a pleasure to receive your emails and I look forward reading your blogs. – Thank you for sharing! You are a true inspiration!
I have been on my journey for a long time now and can say I am gratefull and feel truly blessed. Your latest blog ” planting the seeds of creativity” rang a bell with me, which I would like to share with you and your readers. I am an architect who has been unhappy with the work and the environment I’ve been working in for some time (the corporate world). I was laid off about a year ago and decided to take the opportunity to focus on what I truly feel passionate about and live my life with abundance. I started refocusing my intents on my passion for the Fine Arts, which I minored in College, but due to the Architecture industry I had no time for what I truly feel passionate about. To make a long story short, I have now started my own business with two other collegues focusing on Residential designs and Fine living, Focusing on what makes people feel passionate and alive (i.e. Cooking, Wine Tasting, Entertaining.) Our company name is Epicurean Architecture and design. I have also been reading Dr. Wayne Dyers book – “Change your thoughts change your Life” and reinterpreting Verses of the Tao into graphic manifestations of what I feel the essence of each verse means to me. It has been so much fun and creative. It feels so good to sketch in my book again. I am also looking to teach at an art school because I enjoy the academic environment and want to give back what I feel passionate about. I also have an exhibit coming up in March on photographs I’ve taken while working in Dubai last year. My life feels great, I feel so liberated, consciously aware and grateful for how things are playing out in my life right now.
Evelyn, Thank you for sharing and allowing me to share with you and your readers – I wish you peace, happiness, and abundance through out the new year and with your new venture. Namaste – Mike.

Evelyn Reply:

Hello Mike,

My goodness! You are a living inspiration! While you have not started with focusing on your passion, each part of your journey has come together beautifully and worked out harmoniously. You have chosen to honor the individual components of your inner fire – be it in teaching, creating new interpretations or providing the experience of full and balanced living for others. You have carved out work not just simply by being an architect but in a unique expression of who you really are inside. Most certainly, I believe that you jump out of bed every morning feeling very much alive!

Thank you for sharing your story with me and the rest of the readers here! I think we need more of such stories to help inspire us all! It’s good to be in the company of like minded folks, who believe in turning their dreams into reality!

To your continued abundance,
Evelyn

What a great post to pause and read today. I will check out Affirmation Mart next!
I am working on healing myself still in 2010 getting psyched up for the peak of creativity for women which comes working into life about age 65….I think one must work from a space of gratitude, wisdom and joy to feel it most fully…I want to be at my best to enjoy this phase.

I am also planting seeds of debt freedom…that is very new for me…

Evelyn Reply:

Hi Patricia,

You WILL be at your best to enjoy this phase! You are already much more aware than most in how to live a full life!

I wish you much success in your new intent!

Evelyn, Congrats on the affirmation mart! Your thoughts on creativity resonated with me. I don’t consider myself a creative person in the usual sense – not an artist, poet, musician etc. But I do love to create new projects and structures, and that is where my energy goes.
Also, your note about workers in corporations and the low job satisfaction level reminded me of a recent interview I heard, where this guy was talking about customer service phone workers at Zappo.com. Apparently customer service is a notoriously high-turnover, low job-satisfaction position, because the people have no real power to solve problems, they are just told to read from a script. So at Zappo, instead they gave their workers lots of training and said ‘solve each problem, however you can, and as long as it takes – just solve each customer’s problem.’ And within a few months, the workers were among the most satisfied in the company. They loved being able to creatively solve problems on their own, and feeling like they were really helping someone in a small way.

Evelyn Reply:

Hey Lisa,

Thanks for sharing the interesting case study. The workers sure feel a sense of empowerment, don’t they? I am glad to know that they are more satisfied in their jobs, with being allowed the chance for creative problem solving.

Thumbs up to loving “to create new projects and structures”. I wish you much success in them!

With love,
Evelyn

I love what you said here, about tapping into – or aligning yourself – with your creative inner voice: “When I work from an inner creative space, I am connected to my feelings. In the silence, I can guided by an inner voice on how best to express myself.”
I sometimes have a tough time silencing my mind and letting my heart be heard, but when I do, words and creations just FLOW effortlessly.

I believe 2010 will be a phenomenally creative and great year for everyone!

Evelyn Reply:

Hey there Megan,

It is a constant challenge – to keep the clutter out of our mind. I experience difficulties too. Indeed, the flow is effortless and in abundance when quieten down.

I will be looking forward to seeing more of your inspired creations this year 🙂

I couldn’t agree more Evelyn. Creativity is so important for me as it helping people help themselves. I took a big step at the office yesterday which will enable me to not only express that creativity but also help other people develop too. I’m not sure what will come of it but I know it’s a step in the right direction for me! 🙂

Evelyn,
That is quite interesting as I have also been planting my first seeds of intention this year, as a celebration.
Three weeks ago I planted three pots of sweet peas dedicated to my path unveiling and my ultimate purpose coming true this year, and this tuesday being Imbolc I planted a clay half moon which is a bundle of surprises awaiting to grow.
Have a wonderful time planting your new seeds for 2010.
Your blog is truly delightful. 🙂

Hello Ana,

I have been trying to get on your blog just a while ago but somehow it just could not load well on my browser. I will have to check again later!

How wonderful that you actually planted three pots of peas with much symbolic meaning. Happy gardening! And may your seeds sprout and grow beautifully in their bundles of surprises!

Evelyn

Woo! Awesome awesome article Evelyn. I love, love, love creativity. It’s the ballin’est feeling ever. You know, it occurs to me that in this article you phrased the birth as your two children vaguely as a stumbling block to developing creativity — but I’d have to say there is to me, a *tremendous* amount of creativity in the human intimacy and relationships that result in the *creation of a new human being*

Not to detract from the beautiful creativity contained in this blog, only to note that perhaps there’s even more creativity jam-packed in this story than at first glance 🙂

Rock on.
