My Out-of-Body Experiences

out of body experiences

Slowly I awoke to the strangest sensation. It was as if my body was disconnected from the rest of me. My vision was not quite clear but I was able to see my right hand flung over a pillow. At the same time, I found myself not having physical control of any bodily movement. I experienced an odd separation between body and spirit. My mind was talking in the background, attempting to assess the situation. If anything, I could sense my spirit hovering near my body; close, but not close enough to know that I was One and whole.

Aha!! Immediately, I (the mind) recognized what was happening. I was having the same experience yet again! The first of a very similar event, an out-of-body experience (OBE), occurred only about 2 months back. My second OBE just took place on early Sunday morning (Nov 2, 2008) over the weekend.

“In order to experience everyday spirituality, we need to remember that we are spiritual beings spending some time in a human body.”
— Barbara De Angelis quotes (American researcher on relationships and personal growth)

I would not want to miss taking down notes. Since you (the reader to my site) have clearly indicated that you wish to read more about my own personal experiences, I am publishing about my OBEs here. (On reflection, as I am writing this post, I believe that I may already have had many OBEs previously. I have often woken up from very strange sleep and dreams but have largely been unaware to take notice. For the benefit of easy recording from this day forward, I am numbering the OBE on Nov 2, 2008 as #2.)

Out-of-Body Experience #1

When OBE#1 happened, I was struck by fear. It was ridiculous that I could not even recognize my own body. It was also an early Sunday morning. I “sensed” this body next to me. It was strange, my mind said. Did someone come over to sleep with me last night? One of my kids, maybe? I remembered falling asleep alone, after meditating the night before. The rest of the family had chosen to be hurdled in the big warm bed in the next room.

However, as I peered over the body for a closer look, I saw a pair of hands. My mind began to seize in panic. Oh shit!!! They were mine. But it felt as if they were severed from the rest of my body.

Next, I tried to move one of my hands. It was heavy. I was like trying to move a ton of bricks. The rest of my body appeared to be in trance, still and also, heavy. My mind tried to search itself for a sense of where the rest of me (the mind-spirit including) was.

The next thought arose swiftly: How do I connect my hands back to my body? Cold fear swept in. For a couple of seconds, I (the spirit or the mind) just froze.

My mind spoke again: Hey hey! Let’s calm down. Let’s not panic. Let’s try to gain some control. Move the hands again!

Since my hands felt heavy, I had to “will” them to touch my face. The sensation was an odd mix. On one hand, the rest of me could feel that my face was being touched, but on the other, the sensation felt unreal. As I am writing this, I realize that I do not have the words to completely describe what I experienced back then. Should I have to articulate them in some words, then I believe my spirit was at this stage attempting to integrate back to my body, and gaining control over my hands.

Out-of-Body Experience #2

Now back to OBE#2. As soon as my mind realized what was going on, I was not fearful nor was I in panic. I (the mind-spirit) was completely separated from my body. In a stern tone and with a small laughter at the end, my mind told my hovering spirit: “Get back right in!”

As I tried to move my right hand, I could feel as if I was awakening to having back my senses. At first, an odd sensation, it soon melted away to an inner sense of knowing that I (the spirit) had come home!

What is an Out-of-Body Experience?

In case you are wondering, I also wish to state categorically that I was not having a lucid dream on Nov 2, 2008. The sensation of a OBE is completely different.

According to Wikipedia, this is the defination of a OBE…

“An out-of-body experience (OBE or sometimes OOBE), is an experience that typically involves a sensation of floating outside of one’s body and, in some cases, perceiving one’s physical body from a place outside one’s body (autoscopy). About one in ten people has an out-of-body experience at some time in their lives. Scientists know little about the phenomenon. OBEs are often part of the near-death experience, and reportedly may also lead to astral projection. It is claimed that those experiencing an OBE sometimes observe details which were unknown to them beforehand.”

What else is said on Wikipedia is this….

“However it’s worth noting that even those who describe the experience as something fantastic that occurs during sleep, and who describe the end of the experience by saying ‘and then I woke up’, are very specific in describing the experience as one which was clearly not a dream; many described their sense of feeling more awake than they felt when they were normally awake. One compared the experience to that of lucid dreaming, but said that it was ‘more real’.”

While surfing the web for more information, I came across this quote. It tickled me:

“If I ever had an out-of-body experience — I’d try to come back to a different one.”
Tom Wilson quotes (American actor, writer and comedian)

Now, if my soul or spirit can exercise a choose, which physical form would I want to come back in? Hmmmm…the possibilities can be interesting!

What about you? Any thoughts on which physical form you would like to come back as? Do also share anything you have to say about OBEs!

P.S. I could not find a picture to go along with this post on my OBEs. In the end, I created an image using my favorite Photoshop software out of a background picture by pinkspleen that I found on flick! Hope you like it!

Our physical body is only a part, it’s important, but only a part. The awake of the consciousness open the gate to the wonderful. Greetings

Daniel Richard - November 3, 2008

Hmm. I don’t think I have had any OBE that I could recall of. Does the ones where I felt as though I was falling counted? 🙂

Johnny - November 3, 2008

Congratulations.

You are waking up.

Irene | Light Beckons - November 3, 2008

Hi Evelyn,

I was just talking to a friend yesterday on this topic! Both my friend and I had experienced OBE/astral travels. Our first experiences weren’t very pleasant though, I will share details with you separately. 🙂 If you’d asked me what form or body I’d choose a few years ago, I’d probably say Angelina Jolie. Now, I think I’m just happy to come back to my own!

Evelyn - November 3, 2008

@Elbio, thanks for commenting to my post. Most certainly, the physical body is just a part of the whole.

@Daniel, I can’t tell from your brief description. Perhaps what may help is that the next time when it happens again, be aware and alert to your experience.

@Johnny, er…perhaps I am.

@Irene, if you do astral travel, then I invite you to come visit me…hehe. Let’s contact via email, so that we can arrange for this meeting.

You know…your answer had me drawing in a deep breath. It is uncanny that we have so many similar thoughts!!

Maya - November 4, 2008

Hi Evelyn,
I never had an OBE but I love what you have done with the picture!! Did not know you have photoshop talents 🙂

Lance - November 4, 2008

Evelyn, this brings up in me an experience I had many years ago, when I was probably around 16 years old. I’m not sure if it truly qualifies as an OBE, but it was definitely a surreal experience. I remember it quite vividly yet today, so many years later. I was cutting the lawn on our riding lawn mower (so this didn’t happen while I was sleeping). Everything was normal, and then all of a sudden, everything just seemed “different”. I felt like I was looking at the world differently. Everything seemed grander. There was amazing beauty in all that I saw – and yet what I saw was what had always been there. And I felt like I was disconnected from my body – like I was truly part of this grander vision. I’m guessing it lasted for about a couple of minutes at most. It was a moment where I really, at my soul, believed there was a Creator, that God was a real entity. It was a moment that has left a lasting impact on me.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with this Evelyn.

Friar - November 4, 2008

Hi Evelyn;

Years ago, I underwent hypnosis several times with a licensed hypnotherapist, to help reduce my stress.

In one session, I saw myself levitating out of the office, through the roof, and floating hundreds of feet above the city. I could see the buildings and the streets, and the snow on the roofs.

It was an AWESOME experience. It truly felt like I had left my body!

But that being said, I was still perfectly aware where I was and what was going on.

I knew I was still in the office, listening to the hypnotherapist speak. I knew I wasn’t really flying, this was just a vivid dream. My brain playing tricks on me under the effects of hypnosis.

I knew I could wake up any time I wanted, but it was so much FUN, I just went along with it and enjoyed the ride.

It taught me two things afterward. First, never underestimate the power of the human mind, and what it can make your body feel.

Second, not every out-of-body experience is necessarily literally out-of-body. It can just be a very relaxed meditative state.

francisonlinef - November 4, 2008

very interesting…..there’s definitely SOMETHING going on that’s just beyond our grasp

PeaceLoveJoyBliss - November 4, 2008

Hi Evelyn, as I mentioned elsewhere, I’m fascinated by the account of your experience and by the phenomenon of OBEs in general. Although I’ve never had an autoscopic experience, I have experienced sleep paralysis on one occasion. Lying awake in bed in the middle of the night, my body felt frozen to my mind, with only a minimal sensation that my body was even there. I had to will my hand to rise, and only with great difficulty.

It’s clear to me, from the existence of OBEs, that our faculty of perception is not limited to the confines of a dense physical body, but that it is part and parcel of a lighter, more ethereal body. This is clearly evident in accounts given by surgical patients who, after having had surgery, can recount verifiable events and objects witnessed during surgery. Utterly fascinating to be sure.

Thank you for sharing your experience. In answer to your question, in the spirit of your theme of attracting abundance, I would be interested in coming back into a wide assortment of vacant bodies. I say “vacant” because I would never wish to invade or inhabit a body already occupied by another mind, although even that might be interesting if I had permission to inhabit it.

The image you constructed is beyond excellent; it’s absolutely perfect and matches your post to a T. I really enjoyed reading your post. I wonder how you might tie your OBE experiences in with the theme of attracting and manifesting abundance in your life. For example, is there a part of you that isn’t satisfied with an aspect of your life, and thus wishes to escape from it?

Blessings and light,
Christopher

Jarrod - Warrior Development - November 4, 2008

In my last one a few months ago I got out of my bed and had a look at my physical body lying in bed.

What I noticed was that there was a cord connecting my body and my physical body. It was the first time I’ve seen it but this was also the first time that I’ve tried to examine the relationship between the two bodies when I’ve been nearby.

So I would say that you can’t go an take someone elses body, atleast not while this cord is in existence.

JB - November 4, 2008

Very interesting experience.

I’ve had OBE’s before as well as psychic dreams. Most of the OBE’s occurred while in a sleep state, but one occurred more recently while I was awake.

I had a bad upper respiratory infection that the usual course of treatment seemed unable to affect. (The doctor later prescribed Prednisone, which cured it but which I will never take again due to side effects.) At the time, I was also caring for my mother, who was dying of cancer. I remember sitting on the couch while she napped, and I was just not feeling well at all.

Suddenly, it was as if my mind and body had separated. I experienced my body as remote, much like the relationship between human and automobile. The automobile is a separate entity in and of itself. We humans enter and sit within it, and use it to transport the human self. When something mechanical happens to the car, we exit and leave it in the hands of a mechanic to diagnose and fix, and we get it back when it is cured.

I had the oddest sensation that my body was to the car as my spirit was to the driver, and that if I could just tune in and self-diagnose, I could have the “mechanic” fix the problem and I’d be healed. This is nowhere near an adequate enough description of the sensation, but I distinctly remember feeling separated, as if I was observing the body from an altered perspective outside of it, not from within.

Muneca - November 4, 2008

I’ve had these in the past, years ago before I started learning and searching for the truth. They were soooooo scary because I tried to wake up and couldn’t. I could see the room and my hands or parts of me, but could not move or speak. I would try to scream so someone would help me wake up. Now I now what was happening to me and next time, I will welcome the experience and go with the flow.

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

@Maya, oh…I am still learning how to use the software. It is really powerful and am awed by the many effects that it can do to a picture. I’m glad that you like it!

@Lance, thanks for sharing about your experience here! I don’t know if it was an OBE that you had. But whether OBE or not, it allowed you an access to true magnificence. Sometimes, all we need is just one experience to change an entire paradigm.

@francisonlinef, I am at the part of the journey that is telling me “with more answers, I’m also having more questions”.

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

Christopher, thank you for sharing your personal experience. It seems similar to mine, doesn’t it?

Most definitely, I did sense that the spirit was far “lighter” than the dense physical body. It took me effort to have my spirit fuse back. I am sure that you must have felt it too.

I did wonder how OBEs tie in with attracting abundance for a while. Because I could not find a connection, I did not choose to share my first experience previously.

My only deduction is that I am becoming more aware. As mentioned, I have always had very strange sleep but did not bother to investigate closely. With my recent intent to be more aware of my thoughts and energy states (so as to attract greater abundance), I begin to notice things that I have not quite taken note before. I’d say that having OBEs and knowing that I have experienced them is just a side effect to the various things and healing that I am doing, in my drive towards tuning into higher energy consciousness.

Love, light and truth,
Evelyn

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

Christopher, oops…I forget to respond to your comment on “vacant” bodies. I guess what I am asking is that if you have a choice of “vacant” bodies, which would you choose?

Tom Volkar / Delightful Work - November 4, 2008

I have nothing personal to report but I do admire your willingness your authentic openness to share your experiences.

Vered - MomGrind - November 4, 2008

I never had an OBE but this was an interesting read. I LOVE the photo.

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

Jarrod, thanks for sharing about the cord. I have also been recently reading about its existence. I also understand that we would require this cord to “pull” us back if we are on the astral plane.

Love, light and truth,
Evelyn

Marelisa - November 4, 2008

Hi Evelyn: A friend of my mother’s who does past life regressions told me that once he was with a client and the client was in the meditative state in which he asks them questions to get information about their past lives. When the client “came too” she told him that her spirit had left her body and that she had seen something else enter here body. She wasn’t answering the questions he was asking, it was the spirit that had entered her body (thankfully the spirit left after the questions were over and she was able to reenter her body). It’s important to take precautions before embarking in out of body experiences. I think before you fall asleep you’re supposed to visualize a light surrounding your body so that if your spirit does leave your body nothing else can go in.

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

Hi JB, how interesting on the analogy to having an “mechanic” fix the body while you are outside of your vehicle. I can believe it happening in the way you described it to be.

It seems that it can be the case for a person in “coma” too. The spirit is somewhere else, while the physical body is being attended to by doctors.

Thanks for sharing your personal story!

Love, light & truth,
Evelyn

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

@Muneca, yes…the more times we experience and know what is going on…the less fear we will have. Also, knowing that there is the existence of a cord, as Jarrod has shared, can help reduce our fears.

@Tom, thank you for saying that. I guess I am risking being known as weird, with all my recent posts. For a long time, I only wanted to be known as cool (in a perfectionist sort of way…where you will not hear a squeak of weakness, sadness or any other negative emotion) from me. I kindof gave up pretending!!

@Vered, I’m glad to know that you are still visiting my site for all its “strange” content….LOL!! Thanks for liking the photo.

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

Hi Marelisa,

Thanks for the useful advice!!

I have no conscious control over what has been happening to me during sleep time. I don’t know if it is going to be a lucid dream, an OBE or some past life memory.
I am getting a flux of these recently and I have to admit that I’m not quite sure I really welcome all of them as I want my restful sleep!!

Nevertheless, just to be prepared, having some form of protection before going to bed in the way of visualization is a good idea!! I’d want to try that. Once again, thanks!

Love, light and truth,
Evelyn

PeaceLoveJoyBliss - November 4, 2008

Evelyn, I appreciate your response to my comments. I’m also enjoying the conversation your post has generated, which reveals some additional, and quite interesting, details about the OBE phenomenon, especially the ones about the existence of a cord and unexpected visitations to the body during past-life regressions.

I think you handled my question extremely well, and I think you’re bang on with your answer. With a greater focus on your energetic self through your efforts to heal yourself and raise your awareness, you’ve likely discovered an aspect of yourself that has always been there, but for lack of awareness, had never known it before until recently.

I think Jarrod has a point about the silver cord not allowing us to venture into the bodies of others, or at least not allowing us to venture too easily into the bodies of others, but your question about what bodies I’d prefer to inhabit is a good one because it allows me, at least indirectly, to explore my desires for greater abundance through a contemplation of entering and inhabiting bodies other than my own.

For sure, with my current mind, I would like to enter and experience my body as it was when I was a child at various ages, to enter and experience the body of a woman in the act of sexual intercourse and in the act of giving birth, and to enter and experience fully the body of a man with incredible strength and endurance.

In the light of truth,
Christopher

Robin - November 4, 2008

Hi Evelyn – you did a great job with the pic!

I thought it was really interesting the way you described the experience of coming back into your body as knowing that you had “come home”.

Thanks for sharing these experiences – I haven’t had any myself!

Hunter Nuttall - November 4, 2008

I’m so glad you posted about these experiences so we could all hear about them. I guess whenever I see somebody, I need to question whose spirit is currently inhabiting their body.

Do you know what allows you to have OBEs? Like is it meditation or a certain diet that lets you be in the one in ten who has OBEs?

Davina - November 4, 2008

Hi Evelyn. I had one when I was in my early 20’s. But I stopped it from happening because I was terrified! Absolutely terrified. I’ve shared a little bit about it in an upcoming post that I hope to publish this Thursday.

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

Christopher, it is great that you are also finding interesting insights in the comments shared here on this post.

What has started out as a desire to attracting greater abundance has opened up a whole new world to me. I was no longer merely satisfied with the art of making myself materially rich but a deep exploration of how thought energies work. In the journey to raise my energy vibes, it gradually became one to build greater conscious awareness.

From your answer on the physical form that you would like to undertake, it is obvious that you have a wish to experience all there is in human life forms. If you put energy behind these, you may just get your wishes granted in your future lifetimes; that is, if you believe in the process of rebirth.

Love, light and truth,
Evelyn

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

@Robin, glad you like the effect I made to the original image. Oh yes…it sure feels nice to come back to the comforts of my own “home”.

@Hunter, hahaha..you’re right….you’d never know which spirit is inhabiting a particular body. Find your friend acting weird? This may be a possible explanation!

As mentioned in my comments, I have no conscious control over having lucid dreams and OBEs. Most certainly, I have not had a change in diet.

The only thing is that I have been making an increasingly serious intent to my guides/Universe/God in committing to meditation, increased awareness of thoughts, and to a path of spirituality to help serve the greatest good of all. In that light, I made a prayer request for myself to experience what I need to share with the readers to my site 🙂

Evelyn - November 4, 2008

Davina, admittedly, it can be quite frightening the first time round. Also, if we do not have a conscious understanding of what is happening to us, we can well freak out!! I look forward to reading about your experience!

Love, light and truth,
Evelyn

PeaceLoveJoyBliss - November 4, 2008

Hi Evelyn, it is true that I wish to experience a rich, broad range of qualities and activities in human form, particularly in the context of having my Authentic Self undergo a more conscious and creative evolution towards the realization of my highest potential.

After I posted my most recent comment here, I realized, much to my surprise, that my wish to inhabit various bodies is really a wish to experience more playfulness, more novelty, and a greater sense of power – all of which I can have in this lifetime in my current body.

I think it’s wonderful that your concept of abundance has expanded to include energetic abundance in addition to material abundance, for in the taproot of material abundance lies a gracious, energetic gratitude. And what better way to make this your own than to embrace a more conscious, more loving, more joyous attitude through an uncompromising, unrelenting stream of positivities.

In the light of truth,
Christopher

Stacey / Create a Balance - November 5, 2008

I am not aware of ever having an OBE. If my spirit left my body, I hope it comes back to my body – no need for it to come back as someone or something else. 🙂

Evita - November 5, 2008

Evelyn – that is an amazing experience indeed!

I have had a few feelings where I feel like my body is not really by body, as if I am somewhat above it – I guess those would qualify as OBE’s but at first when I had them, I dismissed them as nothing special and later as I learned more about myself I came to know they are not very powerful ones. But as I continue to learn and grow in my own evolution, I continue to develop my connection to my spiritual self and who knows how far that may lead…

Kelly@SHE-POWER - November 5, 2008

I have had many OBEs over the years, though not for a long time now. I hadn’t really thought about them until you started talking about dreams. I do have one strong recollection of being about 17 and I seemed to be regularly astral traveling, so I decided to try and see if I could MAKE it happen.

I went into a deep mediation before sleep and then drifted off. But this time instead of going into a deep sleep and having an OBE as I was coming back into my body (this was most common), I actually felt myself just after I lifted out and was hovering above my body and my bed. It was a very strange sensation because I truly felt outside what I could see of myself on the bed. That other me was alive, but it was like I couldn’t actually control that body. It was exciting but scary and I ended up feeling the urge to go back in, which I did. Then I woke up.

I haven’t though about that in the longest time.

Kelly

Dot - November 6, 2008

That was really interesting! I haven’t had an OBE, but my ex-husband had one as a truck was speeding straight towards his bicycle when he was young. I have read about certain muscles in the body being paralyzed while we’re dreaming, so that we don’t act out our dreams. Maybe the same thing happens when you’re out of body.

My sister experienced the paralyzed feeling when she was young and was very scared by it. The closest I’ve come is that I used to dream I was flying over land and train tracks. However, I’m too scared to try it when conscious.

Also, I’ve read that the cord, often called a silver cord, shouldn’t be cut or you’ll die.

Jannie - November 6, 2008

I don’t think I’ve actually had an experience like that. Soemtimes just before waking I feel that I have zero control over any of my muscles, but I suppose most people know what that feels like.

I am also un-hypnotizable.

Evelyn - November 6, 2008

@Stacey, I most certainly agree with your choices 🙂 !

@Evita, I hope to do the same too. To continue to build an intimate connection to my divine self and to develop deeper awareness.

@Kelly, I’m having more of weird experiences happening to me in recent months. I’d have normally kept quiet about them if not for the fact that readers (perhaps including yourself) indicate that they would like to read it here. I hope that by triggering your memory, you’d be more aware of what’s happening to you if it should occur again!! You’d find that you’ll have a lot less fear!

Evelyn - November 6, 2008

@Dot, yes…the sense of paralysis is a good word for what I experienced. Thanks for helping me with that! I had a hard time trying to find the exact words to use for this post. Interesting about the cord. I hope to find out more info on it!!

@Jannie, most people are said to be hypnotizable. So it is interesting that you said that you are not. What makes you think so? Have you tried a hypnosis session before and the therapist told you that?

Money Magnet - November 6, 2008

Thank you for the sharing.

Susan/Unique Business Opportunity - November 6, 2008

I can’t say that I have ever had an OBE, but I have often had the experience of not being to feel the boundries of my body. It’s very freeing

Ariel - November 8, 2008

Thank you for sharing your experiences Evelyn!

Your experiences match my own. I’ve had 2 OBE’s now. It’s interesting how you literally are outside of the body, perhaps above it or next to it. There’s a tremendous sense of lightness, literally, and the physical body feels like it’s made of lead.

Have you ever experienced any partial OBE’s? I had one a night or two ago where I didn’t fully leave the “location” of the physical body, but I sort of disconnected from it and was floating around in the same physical area, bobbing around and undulating, for lack of a better word, in this space. I could feel “me” extending out from beyond the limits of the skin. I didn’t actually move away from the physical body, but rather separated from it.

It’s also interesting how when people experience an OBE, they always say that they left their physical bodies. It becomes super clear that they are NOT their bodies.

Yet in the movies, it’s like, “Ahh! They’re gonna steal my soul!” with the assumption that the body is more “me” than the soul. 🙂

Sukhbinder Singh Johal - November 25, 2008

That explains it, or does it…? When people die, the lighter [mind/sprit] body leaves the dense physical body and either stays in its lighter environment or re-enters another physical body. The confusing part is this, that if we take the birth of a child as an old mind/spirit body entering a new body [inside the pregnant mother’s womb], where do the memories and awareness of the previous life/lives go..?

Javier - August 12, 2009

Hello –

I have been experiencing something very disturbing for the past couple of years. Several time a month (it’s happening less and less) as I am falling asleep I hear a loud swoosh and the next thing I know I am about an inch away from my body…it feels as though my spirit wants to go somewhere, but my body doesn’t let it go – it feels as though someone is shaking me really hard. It really scares me…I know that my body isn’t moving because it happened last night while I was hugging my boyfriend and I asked him if he felt me shaking. I have learned throughout the years to go with it – no matter how scary it may be. It doesn’t happen just once on a particular evening – it happens every time I try to fall asleep. I would really love it if someone could tell me what is going on – I have learned to accept it, but it freaks me out and it usually makes me feel very nervous the next day. Oh…one time something spoke to me – it wasn’t good – the entity used foul language and jumped on my back.

When this first started to happen, I went to the dr and I told him that I was having seizures (that’s what I thought was happening) – they ran multiple tests and everything came back normal.

Does anyone else experience this?

Javier - August 12, 2009

It seems that most people on this board have a good experience when they have an OBE. This is not the case for me – it’s not as scary now because I have learned to accept it. I used to think that they were panic attacks, but after last night – I am convinced that this is a spiritual experience.

Ok – Feel free to email directly: [email protected]

Javier - August 12, 2009

I had a typo when I wrote my email address, this is my actual email address: [email protected]

Sean - August 20, 2009

I just recently had an unnerving experience this morning, similiar to Javier’s. From what I can recall, I remember a vibration or shaking sensation seizing my upper body/extremities, particularly my neck. At first, I didn’t know what to make of it; my my vision was shaking (not side-to-side but zooming slightly in and out very rapidly) and a part of the experience was like looking through the reflection of very disturbed water. But after i realized that my body was paralyzed, I felt like I needed to get out of this state. It was like lifting a ton of bricks but I gradually slipped out of it. -I believe this wasn’t a dream because i clearly remember slipping in and out of it with my eyes open in a conscious frame of mind. – I also believe that this wasn’t an OBE. From what I can recall , I stayed on that couch the entire time and it doesn’t resemble any of the experiences I’ve read on this site.
This incident lasted less than a couple of minutes and it’s still pretty fresh in my mind, but for all I know I may have pinched a nerve or something. However, I am not yet willing to negate this episode as craziness on the account that I had been with my terminal grandmother the entire day before. I don’t feel enlightedned nor was i able to get anything appreciable from the experience other than it was an umbelievable physical sensation with a possible spiritual causation. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me and it is really comforting to share this phenomenon with others who can appreciate its value.

Thankyou All

btw if there is something I should be aware of next time this may happen please post

Christina - August 22, 2009

Hi!

I started having OBE’s in my early teens until my mid to late twenties. Unfortunately, when this happened I didn’t know what they were, I was always afraid to go to sleep. To the point that I would sleep with the lights on thinking that it was an evil spirit trying to take me away! Anyway, now I wish I had known what was going on that way I would have known to have control and how to use these experiences to my advantage. The way I used to come back to my body was by asking God to please return my spirt to my body; I would always fight this OBE (of course I didn’t know at the time what it was). This was a nightly occurrence, I was really tired of it because it used to happen as soon as I fell asleep. Anyway, with the exception of just one time, I never left my room, I was usually floating near the ceiling looking at my self asleep in bed and trying to get back to my body. The one time that I did venture out of the room I ended up about four blocks from my house, near these rail road tracks. It was probably about 2am so there was really no traffic, anyways, I was so terrified that I immediately went back to my body. Don’t ask me how this happened, it’s not like you walk or anything, all you do is think of where you want to go and there you are. I didn’t choose to go to that specific place but I was so tired of fighting this “thing” that I said ok fine, take me away. Now that I know what was happening to me, I wish that I would have the OBE’s again so I can choose where I want to go and see. But I haven’t had the OBE’s for a while now and when I did have them I never tried to-they just happened.

Greetings Evelyn and everyone.

I’m guessing you don’t check this much any longer since you posted this such a long time ago. But I’ve been looking on the net about info on OBEs and this is the best I found.

I have this urge to know because I’ve had several OBEs . Most of them pleasant.

Usually when I have OBEs I just feel very light and that I can float, but somehow I can’t float over to see myself from afar I’m guessing because of the blanket. And because I can’t control my body. One time I tried so hard to move my arm by “ordering it” to move I ended up “waking up” and I was back in my body moving my arm. I also tried opening my eyes and the same thing happened. I “woke up”.

But Yesterday I had one but for the first time I could control part of my body – my eyes. It was my feet and my hands that felt extremely light. But I opened my eyes and to my surprise, although I had placed my hands on my chest and they felt as if they were relaxed on my chest, they were actually around 3 inches away from my chest, floating, but relaxed as if they were on it.

It felt as if energy was emanating from my body and pulling away my hands. I could not move them as I usually do when I’m awake, but I could control how high or low they floated, by concentrating on expelling energy or not. I don’t know , this is weird enough.

I know this kind of stuff might sound gibberish to people who have never had an OBE, but hey, it’s true. We all might be able to do it, but we need to overcome fear to try to control it.

@ Javier:

I night stalker bothered me sometimes. But I called on my guardian angels (my grandparents) and they have protected me from it. I never felt it again.

Do you have any guardian angels you might call to protect you?

Jav001, unfortunately I don’t have the time to respond to all the comments that comes into my blog. Nevertheless, I read every single one of them. I was tempted to disallow any more comments to this post but thought that it might help those who needed to share their experiences by expressing themselves publicly. I am glad that you wrote!

Your account of OBE is not very much different from my own experiences. It is also very validating to know that I am spirit inhibiting a human body. Good for you in losing your fears! Yes, there really is nothing much to fear about. OBEs reveals us the truth to who we really are.

With love,
Evelyn

I had an obe some [30]years ago.I had a reaction to the gas a dentist uses and my heart stopped. I could see my body as my spirit or whatever, rose up and I was headed up towards heaven. As I was about halfway up towards this bright, sensational. pleasing white light, myfavorite saint of an uncle who had passed away steped out in fromt of me and said”go back son, this what he called me,it is not time for you yet”. and I came to then and the Dr. was giving me Heart ressuation. This still disturbes me . I have never had it explained. Can you help
