How to Overcome the Fear of Rejection

fear of rejection

Is the fear of rejection stopping you from being free to pursue what you want?

Well, it is one fear that strikes many of us. The perception of having been rejected can cut like a stab in the heart. In an instant, you can feel as if you are drained of all blood. Dizziness ensues and you hang on to dear life, gasping for air.

“There is going to be a hundred thousand doors slammed in your face before one opens, so feel ok about taking rejection.” – Heather Matarazzo

I don’t know of anyone who has the privilege of going through life without ever experiencing the fear of rejection at least once. I have certainly been rejected many times. In a few of the situations, back when I was in my early 20s, I had thought that I would not be able to survive past the rejection. With despair, I would drown my sorrow via drinking and clubbing several times a week. Fortunately, these days, I have found better ways to deal with the fear of rejection.

30 Reasons Why You Need to Build Self-Confidence

build self confidence

On a scale of 1-10, how much self confidence would you say that you have? You rate 1 if you have extremely low self-confidence and 10 if you have high self confidence. Avoid putting too much thinking into the rating process, the score should come up intuitively.

“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.”- Norman Vincent Peale

There are many everyday signs of low self confidence. It happens when you have little trust, cannot make decisions on your own and are constantly caught in a sense of helplessness. Invariably, your attitude towards life is poor.

Should your self confidence be low, it shows up in your awkwardness in social settings. You may constantly look at the ground, quiver in anxiety and keep apologising for yourself in front of others. One client who came to see me last week about her low self-confidence kept shaking and shifting her legs nervously for a whole one hour.

How to Overcome the Fear of Success

overcome the fear of success

It sounds ridiculous that anyone can have the fear of success. However, the fear of success is as psychologically valid as the fear of failure. In fact, the fear of success is often not as easily detectable because it lies in your subconscious. It is through recognizing repeated self-sabotaging behavior that you can possibly deduce that you may just be having this fear.

There is a difference between the fear of success and the fear of failure. The fear of failure is the fear of making mistakes, fear of falling short and fear of not reaching your intended goal. Conversely, the fear of success is the deliberate (although rooted in the subconscious) subversion to success that you already know is reachable.

Buddha: Teaching of Self-Love“You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” – Buddha

An important core teaching in Buddhism is self-love. Buddha teaches that you love the self before extending the love to others. In other words, before you are able to be a love luminary, you must have the capacity to embrace yourself fully. Today being Vesak Day, let’s celebrate Buddha’s teachings about love.

Self Love Story: Lessons From the Heart

self love open your heart

My self love story first arose from lessons in relationships.  The inability to experience love outside myself eventually led to a search from within. It’s going to take me courage to share more details about my life experiences. However, for some reason, the twinkling stars from beyond the cosmos seem aligned today. I have decided to proceed with publishing my self love story. So here goes…Be The Author of A Compelling Self Love Story

(Taken from My Art Journal: Be the Author of A Compelling Self Love Story)

For a long time, I sought for love everywhere else other than from the inside. I had no awareness about what it meant to love myself back then. Brought up on a diet of fairy tales, I was seriously hoping to ride into the sunset with the One, happily married ever after. Obviously, my dreams never quite materialised in the way I was expecting them to.

10 Tips to Overcome Shyness

overcome shyness with self confidence

There are ways to overcome shyness even if you are in a social setting.

Are you painfully shy? Do you often feel awkward, turn white, stammer in anxiety, mumble and/or look away when someone approaches you to talk? Many people never outgrow the feelings off shyness that they experienced as children, and as an adult, being shy can pose tremendous social challenges that impede on success. Luckily, it is possible to overcome shyness at any time.

Shy Smile
My daughter is encouraged to smile more despite being shy.

As a child, I was extremely shy. My voice was hardly audible. I wished that I could disappear into the ground when people I didn’t know well, approached me with a question. Until I entered college, I frequently hoped that no one would notice me. In college, I became somewhat split in my desires; torn between wanting to be noticed by the boys and not wanting to be noticed by the teachers during class.

Are You A Cracked Pot?

I have just come across the story about the cracked pot. It is a popular tale that came from India. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to re-publish it on my site. There is so much meaning to the story! The story is about our sense of self worth. Many of us do not realize how beautiful we are even for all our imperfections. When we look at ourselves in the mirror, we can only see flaws. We practice a lot of self judgement. In fact, in many instances, we judge ourselves more harshly than we judge others. We do not realize that our imperfections are also about who we are and what we bring to the world. If you do not know the story of the cracked pot, here is how it goes….
